Gastric-Bypass Weight Loss Surgery The right choice for me.
In January 2003 I made the decision to have Gastric-Bypass surgery. I started gaining weight at age 6 after having my tonsil’s removed, by the time I turned 7 I had doubled my weight. My teen years I weighed about 160lbs I thought I was fat, I was over weight but not considered Obese. I gained about 30lbs when I got pregnant but lost most of it after having my son.
When I turned 32 I was told I had Cervical Cancer, ( I have a guardian Angel). I had not had a pap exam in the 10 years after having my son. I was one of the lucky ones, my cancer was in the very first stage, I was able to have a partial hysterectomy and did not have to have any Chemo or Radiation. I was never told to watch my weight. I did not realize that most people pack on the pounds after a hysterectomy.
In June of 2003 I had my Gastric-Bypass operation, I weighed 289lbs. I was on my way to an early grave, almost 6 years later and my weight is now 152lbs, before having the surgery I was not able to walk up a flight of stairs, or walk around my neighborhood with out having to stop and get my breath. Considering I was obese I did not have major heath problems, my legs would swell so much that it hurt just to walk in to another room.
I had a wonderful surgeon and I’ve not had any complication’s from the surgery. I would recommend having the surgery to anyone that’s obese, I’ve heard and read the horror stories from this surgery. I think the complication in part come from the surgeon’s as well as the person having it. It is a life changing event and you must be mentally as well as physically ready for that change.
