Tyson got to have his favourite food for breakfast, grilled cheese. Read about why I chose to "give in" this morning.

September 17th. 2009:

It’s been a tough week, a very tough week. I feel as if my eyes are hanging from my head from the lack of sleep. Argh, that rotten alarm, why does it have to go off when I was having such a wonderful dream?

Even though I am tired, I still get up at 5am with Steve as I know that, in less than a minute, Tyson will be opening his door. Hopefully, this morning, he will be in a good mood. Yes! I get a smile and a ‘good morning, Mummy’. The weight on my shoulders shifts slightly. There is still one hurdle to clear, something that has come about in the past week.

Tyson has a rash, in a not so good area (down ‘there’). He has had it for nearly a week. Because Tyson wears nappies at night, I assumed it was nappy-rash. It was only after a day of treating the rash with sudocream and healing balm, and it getting worse, that I realised that it wasn’t.  Thoughts of my father’s eczema came to mind. My fears were confirmed by Tyson’s GP.

Back to the hurdle that has to be cleared at five in the morning.  I took off his nappy and was relieved to see that the rash had cleared up a little and apply the cream that the GP prescribed.  Tyson is all excited as it is a ’school day’ (EI) and he wants to wear his ‘zipper pants’ (cargo pants with lots of pockets). I hate that I have to burst his little bubble, Tyson won’t be able to wear his ‘zipper pants’ today and will have to wear tracksuits pants.

Thankfully, I had decided last night that I wouldn’t be taking the boys to EI this morning. I explain to Tyson that we won’t be going as he still has his rash. Yay! The penny has dropped this morning and Tyson is understanding me. One disaster has been avoided.

Yet, we still have to get through breakfast. I forgot to buy some more croissants yesterday so I am unsure about what to give Tyson for breakfast this morning.  I decided to take a leap of faith and ask Tyson what he would like to eat.  After careful consideration, Tyson asks if he can have grilled cheese for breakfast, which is one of his favourite foods.

I think for a moment and ponder what else Tyson can have with lunch if he has grilled cheese for breakfast and if I am being a good mum for letting him eat that first thing. Hmm. . . . well, it’s better that Tyson eats grilled cheese willingly rather than have to ‘battle it out’ with toast or breakfast cereal (Tyson doesn’t like pancakes at the moment). After all, it is really my own fault for not making sure I had croissants in the house. Silly mummy!

In a way, I’m am relieved that I chose to give Tyson a large serve of grilled Colby cheese this morning. He has eaten and is in such a good mood.  After Tyson had his bath this morning, he requested more food – an apple! WOW!  This is something that has never happened before.

I am hoping that Tyson’s good mood will continue throughout the day. It is unfortunate that Tyson has inherited his grandfather’s eczema (I would have preferred the hay fever instead!) but at least it is getting better with every bi-carb bath.

Not much longer to the weekend. I have already decided that I won’t be working this weekend – I need sleep and my ‘mummy brain’ is pretty bad. Also, I want to make sure that Tyson’s rash is all better so that he can go to EI next week.
