I’m part of this bible study for kids out of high school called GROW Group.

I of all people understand the stereotype of cliques and groups that are for Christians and such. I have been hurt countless times by such groups and I cant tell you how hindering it can be for anyone. It is almost like have your self-esteem cut from your very being. Yea, it sucks that bad!

But let me tell you, GROW is so different. They are not cookie-cutter Christians in any sense. They come from every walk of life. From Lil college kids like me to roofers, EMT’s, musicians, singers, youth pastors, and young moms. We have single, couples, and married. Christians and not. They are the most accepting group I have ever met! I feel completely at home with them, and trust me, I am judgmental. I am picky in who I choose to hang with and like. But for the first time I enjoy hanging with the jocks, preps, super-nerds, and ultra-shy people; ALL AT THE SAME TIME! Its like the movie breakfast club every Sunday night.

I love how its in a neutral place also. We meet in a couples home who don’t participate in the group. It is peaceful and safe and located on a public college campus. We drink coffee and simply relax. The group simply cant stop after our study though, every single Sunday we either go watch movie, hit up a local bar and shoot pool, or go eat at Applebees.

I feel more at home with this group than I ever have in a church. Sometimes I really do believe church might not be for everyone. We just need to put forth the effort to find where we can personally grow. For me; its at GROW. :D
