Many of us have a difficult time talking about hobbies. For example, we do not play sports, bake cakes or paint. We are the type of people that have learned basic things in order to make it every day. We know how to iron a shirt or how to drive a car, but we are not the ones preparing a delicious meal with a recipe from an international cooking book. In addition to that, we are definitely not the ones jogging every afternoon, just for fun. 

If we want to be able to answer someone when they ask about our hobbies, we need to find out  the definition of hobbies. According to the Encarta World English Dictionary, hobbies are activities engaged in for pleasure and relaxation during spare time. Now in order to decide what our hobbies are, we have to take a close look at our life. First we have to think about our daily routine. Second, we have to think about the things that we do outside work. Third, we have to decide what we really enjoy doing and write these things down. This might be a little bit difficult at first because we do not fit the profile. In other words, we do not play sports, sing or dance. These are popular hobbies, but these are not our hobbies. 

After writing down the things I enjoy doing, I came out with my list of hobbies.  For example,  I found out that one of my hobbies is going to bookstores and reading one or two pages of different books. It is nice to have a cup of coffee and a dessert at Barnes & Noble, after selecting or buying a book. My family considers this boring. I consider it my favorite hobby because  I enjoy every minute of it. A bookstore is a place where I can spend the whole day and go back again tomorrow. I can live in a bookstore and be happy. Sometimes, I go by myself. Sometimes, I go with friends. It really does not  matter, because I always have a great time at a bookstore. 

Now, prepare yourself for the next time someone asks about your hobbies. Be enthusiastic when you talk about it. Let them see that this activity is one of your hobbies because it makes you happy. Be proud of yourself because you are able to enjoy an activity, without thinking if other people might like it or not. Remember, it is your hobby.
