What my office is doing to make sure we have our holiday party, even during the recession.

Every morning I wake up, make coffee, feed my Kitten, take my shower, put on my face and then finally sit in front of the television and sip away at my coffee. It is my time to watch the plants grow (even though I have no plants…lol) and catch up on whats happening in the world since the day before.

This morning I was saddened by news that a lot of big corporations are not having their annual Christmas parties because of the recession. My office has also been affected by this, but with me managing the office, I came up with the idea maybe we could have it at a private home ( the accountants) , and all of us bring something for a pot luck dinner. Everyone agreed and so our party will go on.

I do believe that we all need this time every year. It brings happiness and a time to share with the ones we work with every day. It is a special time when we feel as though the past year has been worth all the effort we put into the business. It will give us more holiday spirit for our families and friends. It is a good thing!

We will draw names for a secret Santa gift. We will be restricted on only spending $5.00, but I am sure we will all have a good time,  just like we did last year.It really does not take a lot of money when everyone joins together.

Just because the world is having a melt down does not mean we should suffer even more than we are. I so wish big cooperate America felt the same way I do and put on their Holiday Parties!

I do agree with you, Linda. You don’t need a lot of money to have fun but if you work together can can have loads of fun. The world needs unity!

Oh, I totally agree with you. Everyone needs a break and some time to come together as friends as well as co-workers. To take away the Christmas party sounds like the Grinch came to town. Great, now I have the Grinch song stuck in my head…\”You\’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch…\”

Hello I Hope I am finding you well as i write to you and say How much this kind of thing is needed. My wife came home and said that her plant was not giving out Holiday Bonuses this year last year they gave out turkey\’s but they have not even planed for that this year! I say if we put all our time in to these companies each year sacrificing our home lives so these people can Make Money . Then dog Gone it the least they can do is Give us a party or something to say thank you! So in saying that Thank you for doing what needs to be done. People need to have a bit of relief even if the economy is bad. That should not stop us from being good to those who have been good to us in a ruff Time. Now more than ever do people need Good news and some sort of thought as to all of this is not for nothing! thanks again for this Great Post! IspellBad

Right you are, The holidays should be about getting together with friends, family and co-workers, If everyone brings food then the cost will be more affordable for everyone. The togetherness is the point. Best wishes, Ruby

That’s very much a sign of a good human being and good business person.

I think your idea is wonderful Linda. Co-workers should get together for the holidays.

Big Corporate get’s sticky though. In this environment they are typically laying off in Oct/Nov to avoid doing it at the holidays. If they throw the big party at the usual $venue folks start to wonder why their friend got laid-off but they were still able to spend the money on a party.

I think it’s a good idea too. There is no need to spend a lot of money for friends, family, and co-workers to get together and have a good time.

Ruby has a great idea too. If everyone brought their own food it would help cut down on company costs and…we have a lot of great recipes right here on Triond to choose from.

Good ideas. My hospital is not having a Christmas Party this year. It makes me sad. Hopefully my department will have a small lunch or something. Christmas will be small for most people this year. We all need to look at what Christmas really is and not just at gifts.
