About volunteering in the hospital.

Volunteering in the hospital can be very rewarding, knowing the fact that you are helping other. I was giving out ice water, only to find out the water was already fresh. I not going to offer a snack; with out the nursing permission. I don’t know what kind of diet your on, and I not going to take the patients word for it. I would rather offered you nothing at all then offer you a snack that doctor told you no you can’t have.

There were some books and magazine, down stairs and more then half the satisfaction came after I got permission to take the books and magazine up to the patients. I don’t know what your cup of tea is in reading. I once helped someone to  alleviate their pain by giving them a book. The only thing that I didn’t like about volunteering, is that you ate by yourself.

will, if I had my way every hospital would have a library on every floor. Do you like fiction, non fiction. Maybe you want to read about medical issue; so you can ask your doctor. maybe Romans novels is more your style, do you like Harry Potter. maybe you like book on animals. do you like religion. I don’t know what religion but I would have all religion. Oh, their religion believe something different then our. If food more  your cup a tea there would section with different recipes.

and  I would encourage people to donated reading material, there would section for children. What ever their cup of tea is. and if a parent says I don’t want my son or daughter reading a certain book. I would respect that wish. better yet I would have parents go through books and pick out their child’s reading

I’m sure people confined to the hospital are happy to have someone come in and relieve the monotony. Most anyone has a favorite book.

I’m going to be volunteering at the hospital radio and I hope it is a rewarding experience just like you’ve said in this anecdote. Very thought provoking and I like the way you put it as a part of your outlook on life.

Do they still have ‘candy stripers’ in hospitals? That used to be a thing from the 1970s, a ‘volunteer’ wearing a striped outfit (usually in brightly colored ‘candy’ colors) that went around hospital wards and handed out magazines, read patients get-well cards for them, chatted if they wanted company, etc.

When I just passed the Nursing board exam I volunteered in the hospital for 6 mos. while waiting to get a slot.Even there was no salary or allowance I’m still happy that I was able to help the patients. The feeling is so rewarding everytime i see the smile on their lips as a gratitude for assisting and accompanying them.Seeing them happy because of what I’ve done is more than enough compare to money.
