How May I Help You-As Your Doula

            I meet you, we exchange names say hello, then settle down to get acquainted with each other. Your eight months pregnant, and I am your certified doula, I want you to be completely honest with me, open and sincere. I too will be honest and open to you. You are my client, and it is my job to do the very best to meet you expectation. Your husband wonders where he fits into all this, but his role is very important; and necessary because together you created a child, and together with help your going to bring forth a beautiful newborn.

            It is my job to make sure you are both very comfortable, not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. My job is to physically help you relieve any discomfort; do you need extra pillows, a blanket; perhaps you can tell me now, what helps you to relax. If you tell me light stroking of your neck and shoulder, together your husband and I will work very hard to sooth these areas, while in Labor. I will inform you both, that what helps during your pregnancy may not work during labor, you the woman in labor, needs to tell us. It is up to you to give us our cues, so that we know what to do and not do.

            Mentally, now this part is very important you need to know that I will be there; from being to end; end of story! I will be there along with your partner. I will let you know what is going on to the best of my ability. You need to feel secure in the fact that once your start labor and I come over to help you; I will be there until your baby is snug in your arms. It will be up to me to make your “birth wish list” a reality. I will be there if your husband needs to step out, or to go get something to eat, or even to rest. I too will need to rest, but I will be holding your hand keeping you within my reach, so as the labor progresses I can offer you the support I promised you. You will do a wonderful job, and together you and your partner will be very amazed at how magnificent the woman’s body is. I will encourage you, and let you know that you can do it. So again I tell you; I will be there to help you, support you and get you through a very amazing time.
