I smoke and I quite enjoy it. Please leave me alone.

I am Havin’ a Fag!

In the UK, Fag is slang for cigarette.

Glad we got that cleared up.

I am getting sick of people looking down there nose at me, because I smoke. I think smokers get a rough ride. We know it is bad for our health; however the tax paid on a pack of cigs pays for any medical treatment needed due to smoking. Smokers don’t go home and beat their partners because they have smoked too many. Having a smoke does not impede drivers. I have yet to hear of binge smoking.

There is always someone who needs to be vilified by the rest. It seems perfectly acceptable to drink heavily, take recreational drugs and sleep around, yet smokers will be stood outside, having a smoke, sharing the area with the rats searching the bins and then some bastard will walks past – doing the fake cough – Jesus, I smoke 20 a day and I don’t cough like that.

Give it 5 years and Bin Laden will lose some of his terror appeal and don’t be surprised if the media start photoshopping his image so he has a half smoked cigarette in his mouth… just to get the evil back.

We all have vices, things we shouldn’t do, things we should now better about. Just accept it.

Have to agree with you here. The fake cough I just find ridiculously stupid. I quit smoking last year but I agree with what you are saying here.

I once had a woman complain about me polluting the atmosphere whilst I was having a fag outside the Wetherspoon’s in Bangor. She then got into her Chelsea tractor (SUV to Americans) which belted out a damn sight more smoke than I could produce in a hundred lifetimes of smoking!

    Fake cough – real cough?

    I have asthma.
I can get triggered by cigarette smoke, and if I cannot get to my rescue inhaler (or even if I can) I have a good chance of dying during an attack. I do not allow smokers in my house, because of this. Even when they are not lighting up, they smell enough to trigger an asthma attack.

In the US there health care is still not universal/public/affordable, so it is not offset by the extra tax you pay on the cigarettes. As someone with asthma I have a preexisting condition and was basically uninsurable until last year. It is still too expensive for me to get health insurance.

So if you can for a moment step in my shoes, you might understand the cough a bit better…
As long as you stay out of my airspace, I can be quite civil. I don’t really care what you do to your lungs, but do not shut mine down just yet, okay?
    Enjoy your fag… over there.

I smoke myself. Since my hubby is on oxygen, I have to smoke outside and yes, I am out there in 25 degrees smoking away and teeth chattering. But I’ve given up everything else, drugs, alcohol, sex. I’ll be damn if I give up cigs..lol

Unfortunately, US healthcare just sucks. Put it this way no one gets anything unless there is money and tax payer dollars go to politicians and greedy companies.
Still the fake cough is stupid. I understand asthma but the people who are in perfect health doing that are just absurd.

I live in New York State and we have the highest cigarette tax in the country. You can pay upwards of $10,00 per pack. We also have now imposed laws where smoking is prohibited in our parks, at the beach, around hospitals and not on the premises of most employers. We even had a lawsuit in California where a neighbor sued their neighbor for smoking in their own backyard! They claimed it was wafting over the fence and making them sick. YIKES!
