An African American women reflecting upon life.

Throughout my life I was always look upon as second best since I am the second child on both sides of my family.

Growing up I learned the ropes of school on my own. No one to call and ask for help, no one to read to me before I went to sleep, no one to make sure I was getting my work done, and no one to make me do my work. I look to the only man that I trusted and knew from toddler years to help me, My God.

It is God who’s brought me this far, God who stayed with me, God who whispered knowledge and wisdom to me, and I know that it’s because of God that I’m here today!

I am a sophomore in college, a first generation college student, classified as an independent student, and working my way towards success.

Public schools from elementary all the way up to high school thought me nothing, instead trained me in how to follow directions 101, chewed me up, like bubble gum, and spit me out into this knowledgeable person I am today.

Instead of being the statistic, I will be the proof.

Proof of true determination,

proof of achievement,

proof that all young adults aren’t the same,

proof to all of the following generations that I am more than a conquer.

I am my destiny!
