This is an essay I wrote when my teacher prompted our class on our favorite place to be.

When most people think of their favorite place, they think of Amusement Parks and vacations they may have gone on. I’m on of those few who don’t have to look far for their favorite place. Mine is a relatively simple place, never far from me.

My favorite place is immersed in a book. When I read a book, I can imagine myself as the lead character and relate to their problems. It gives me an escape from my world into theirs. I love to kick back in my room, music playing, lounged out on my bed, reading a book. This is my true favorite place. It’s my solitude. I can be who I want to be, whether that may be who I actually am or the character I happen to be reading about. I have a box full that I can pull out whenever I need an escape. I can pull out my book after a bad day at school and just read…forget my bad day and know only what I am reading. This is a trick I have used since I first got the room in now have. I love reading and when I really get immersed in my book, I lose all connections to the real world and I know nothing other than the story I am in.

When I read, I can get help on my problems I may be experiencing at that time. Some books write about things that everyday people go through. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll find that there is a way out of that problem that you may never have thought of. Reading is my sanctuary because most characters have amazing lives although the author made them believe they don’t. They could have one of the best lives ever and not agree because they’re missing their true love, or their family.

To me, books are just a way for me to get lost in their world and ignore mine. I lose everything when I read. Sometimes I can forget who I am and where I am at. Reading just has that much of an impact on me.

When I’m having a bad day, I’ll grab a book and just start reading. If I focus hard enough, I can almost see everything the main character sees, I can almost feel everything they feel. Some say that is an overactive imagination, they are probably right. Want to know what I think about that? I really don’t care. If I have a hyper imagination, so be it. I think it is better to have a hyper imagination than not have one at all. My imagination helps me get away from all of my problems and just relax…even if only for a little while.

There you have it. You now know where my favorite place to be is. Make sure you don’t forget. You never know when I may show up to give you a follow up quiz… just kidding!
