A comparison of several different insurance companies, based on personal experience.

For years I was with Farmer’s Insurance. I never had a single complaint. I loved the service provided, and the rates were definitely competitive. They took the time to save us money, even after we had been with them for several years. They would continuously look into our account, and let us know what we could do to save.

When I bought my new car, the dealer put me in touch with one of those agents who searches several different companies, and gives you numerous rates so you can choose the one most suitable. The company that offered the lowest rate was Progressive. Ha! Later, I did my own research & found their rates to be almost double what I could find on my own. So, I switched to State Farm. After canceling, I received a bill from Progressive in the amount of $103.97. For what? I had paid my monthly premium on time, every month, and had made no claims. Remember, the monthly premium I was paying was nearly double what other companies would charge me.  The folks at Progressive said it was a “Cancellation Fee.” A what? They went on to explain that it was written in the fine print of notification they’d sent out. Well, why wasn’t I told about this during our verbal agreement over the phone when I set the account up?  Less than a month later, I am hit with a Collection Notice, no warning, no letter saying they “might” send me to collections, no phone call, just straight to collections. Nice. Begrudgingly, I paid it.

I have now been with State Farm for three months. So far, so good. I have had to make no claims, but the rates are, as I mentioned, nearly half of what Progressive was charging, for the exact same coverage.  The agent is also extremely nice. She sent me out notepads of paper with her face on them, magnets, emery boards, and pens, just to say “thank you for being a customer.”

Some companies will do what it takes to keep their customers happy. Some companies will only do what it takes to fill their pocketbooks. In the end, I prefer to give my money to the company that considers my needs.

Thanks for this review – I agree, when your needs are taken care of – it’s worth the money.

    Blessings.

    Sincerely,
