This is about the process that high schools have go through to hopefully get into there college of their choice.

It is that time of season for College applications and Sat scores and student tours

It is now the month of October where most seniors are taking their Sat or Act test for a second or first time. Seniors are narrowing down there college choices to maybe 5. Where the parents are paying from $25.00 to $75.00 per application for their child in hopes they get into college. Now if you times (x5) per lowest fee that is $125.00 total at lowest end and if they are at high end $375.00 for all the applications.

This does not include in May the $225.00 you need as a deposit to hold the dorm room and telling the college you will be going there in fall.

Then there is the FASTA form done in January for each student parents need to fill out if they are sending their child to college.

There are also last minutes trips to college which I just went through with my youngest daughter. We went to Bloomsburg University in Penna. It was a 2 hour trip for us one way. Now when we signed up for this tour it was not noted this was for counselors from all Pennsylvania High schools to come and look at the college. When we signed in, we were asked how many credits we had I looked at my daughter.  She said she had 32 credits from high school. The nice young lady said no that was not enough we needed 48 credits. I said Huh? She went on to explain this was for counselors for all Pennsylvania schools to come look at what Bloomsburg University had to offer. We said we thought this was a school tour. We went in talked to other representatives of other colleges. These are the following colleges that were there: Millersville University, Mansfield College, Indiana College, Kutztown University, West Chester University to name a few.

Since we drove two hours one way I did not want to waste the in spite of the rainy weather it was heavy at times during the time we were there. We decided to our own campus tour. It worked out really well. We found her special education building and talked to a teacher in the program who happens to be walking by when we entered the building. My daughter wants to be a teacher for special needs children specifically Autism children which Bloomsburg does have in their curriculum. They also have a curriculum in deaf as well as other areas.

Remember this time in my life as a real pain but necessary.

I could not agree with more Joe Dorish and I really feel for my daughter going through this process. Doing the best I can without influencing and make sure it is her choice and not mine.
    Thanks for the comment

I feel for both of you. The whole process can suck but it has to be done. I wish your daughter the best, Lee.

I can’t help but feel a little sorry for the seniors. It’s a rough spot in their lives.
