Library stickering project finally done, waxing moon, mists, and hop-toads.

Awoke without benefit of alarm clock at 7:50am.  (I hate alarm clocks!)  Have that incredibly good feeling that goes with an onerous job well-done and over.  Yesterday, the Accelerated Reader book stickering job was finished, the shelves shifted, some weeded, and all the books re-shelved.

I put paper on my bulletin boards while my partner and her family looked up information for a well-earned vacation.  The children worked hard–their part of their mother’s share went toward Six Flags tickets!  On the last day, their father, who couldn’t figure out what was taking so long till he saw the project, came in and helped with shifting books on shelves.  We all felt quite giddy at 4:30 when the last books were shelved, and we used up the absolutely last piece of tape available for covering labels.  Four books were left needing tape.  We had used:  one roll of label covers, 2 rolls of three inch book tape, 8 rolls of 1 3/4 book tape, and 6 rolls of 1 1/2 inch book tape.  The original printing of book labels was 3110; I added around 200 duplicates and error corrections.  The job took 6 full ten-hour days, one Sunday afternoon, and two evenings. The pay for this event came from a grant from Accelerated Reader, and I’m not sure we *quite* made minimum wage by the time it was finished, but books and program are ready for student use.

After my partner went home, I took a break, ate a bit of supper, read a little bit of my Triond news, but got frustrated with the school computers.  So I switched over, and read a novel I had found during the stickering project:  a Diana Wynne Jones I had not read.  This wasn’t one of her best efforts, but it was words in a row that kept me occupied while my feet rested.

After my supper break, I worked on setting up pop mail for the new teachers.  When I carried out the trash from our week of stickering (papers, removed labels, pizza boxes–had to feed the troops ya know) the waxing moon was a thin crescent in the night sky.  Little hoppy-toads (and I do mean little–these guys were about the size of my two thumbs put together) bounced over the side-walk and lawn near the outside lights.  A cat ran from near the dumpster.  I sure hope it has a home.  I was incredibly relieved when the new bookkeeper took the last stray.  My space is kinda full of critter.

I checked doors, turned off lights, and stepped out into the cool night air.  The moon kept me company on the drive home.  Mist curled up out of the hollows along the the creek.  Home never looked so good as it did last night.  I curled up in the big chair, read a little bit, and toddled off to bed.  I slept without dreaming (that I remember anyway), and awoke refreshed.  Having this job finished is BEYOND wonderful!

Wow! I’m a school librarian looking at doing a similar job when school starts in the fall. No special time or extra money to do it though. It’s’ going to take me all year to get this done!

Daisy, Yea for a job well done, I hope you can relax a few days before school starts. It does feel so good to finish a job of work. You can finely take a good long breath and enjoy being.
