This is the first of a Journal Series that is constructed through my random thought process. I begin with a topic, and see where it goes. This week the main topic is productivity and sleep.
Really as a child I think you know yourself the best. As you grow up, you realize more and more what other people want to see or hear, so you adapt yourself cleverly to hide your traits that they wont like, and work harder to get better at giving them what they do want. It is a tricky game to play, because other people might just think you want acceptance and accept you for what you are, even though they do not like this show that you are putting on for them. In reality maybe that child that you once were is truly the person that people want to see, but since other people are putting on a show as well, you will never find that out.
On a completely different note, let’s talk about sleep, and the lack there of. Recently I suffered a bout of insomnia, which affects 1 in 3 people. That is a big percentage! Insomnia does not have to be the complete lack of sleep though, fortunately for some people it is just a bit of trouble getting to sleep, or for others trouble falling back to sleep after waking up for no reason in the middle of the night. When people do sleep though it is a totally different story. I have heard that we only sleep to satisfy our internal want for death to overtake us. Of course there is also an internal want for life, so sleep is the compromise. Without sleep it is not that we run low on energy simply from the lack of it, we run low on energy because we get so tired from suppressing the need for death. If we did not need to suppress this, than we might never have to sleep, or at least not as much because we would not grow as tired as quickly. We might even be able to replenish our energy without going to sleep.
Personally I think that without sleep I would be able to get so much more done. With an extra eight hours of life everyday I could make sure to complete all of my work as well as I could, and still be able to relax. I might even have time to go hang out with friends, and not worry about not finishing anything. School could even start earlier so that the year could be shorter, or there could be more breaks. If sleep were cured then the world would be more productive. Even the ability to go a few days without sleep and remain healthy would be a great advantage and you could be so much more productive.
I think another great way to be productive would be to clone yourself. With two of yourself you could divide up the work and work together on the harder stuff. You could have conversations with yourself and build yourself intellectually, identifying faults that you might have and working together to surpass them. In finals it would help immensely, you could study with yourself, and also only study for half of the tests, while your clone studied the other half. You could work super productively as one person. Of course later in life you might run into some problems, like only knowing half of what you need to.
