This is a dedication for my best friend.

Simple things have reasons why they’re there. Simple things have reasons why they happened and simple things are not just simple once you see their true purpose.

I wasn’t really fond of sweets, it’s not that I’m diabetic or something, it’s just that when I’m young I was always given various sweets like lollipops, candy canes, lickerish, gummy worms and specially chocolates. So, when I grew up I ended up tired of eating those delicious tempting   things.

When I was in the fourth grade I ended up moving to another school, it’s hard trying to make friends, in our class we were only two students occupying one classroom, my classmate was a girl, chubby looking and cute while I at that time was as thin as a lizard. You can simply just notice how different we are from the moment you set your eyes upon us. When recess time arrived during my first day at school. I offered a piece of kitkat to my adviser whom declined to my offer and told me to give it to my classmate, Jhoanne. Yes that was her name. Jhoanne, she accepted the half of the chocolate covered wafer. That’s where it all had started.

Jhoanne became my best friend she was an outspoken person, filled with energy that will make you smile when you see her that’s how she is. During those times I was her opposite, the shy, quiet girl whom sits and observes. We truly are different, her parents were not that strict towards her while mine are. Our religions are dissimilar as well. I was a Roman Catholic while she’s an Iglesia ni Cristo. Though, we have different personalities, though we have different opinions in life, we’re somewhat the same. She may be like the sun that beams every morning and I am the moon whom quietly observes at night but both of us give a distinct glow. We may have grown up in a diverse environment but our families loved us with the same amount and we may have different religions but we believe in one God.

Jho, that’s what I call her to be honest I knew little about her. I don’t really know her allergies like my new found friends, I don’t know what makes her tick like the people I just met but we became best friends. Odd. But I’m happy to have met her and had cherished everything she gave me. All those small things be a bracelet or a simple bag I treasured them as much as I have treasured our friendship. ‘Best Friend’ it may just be a title but looking at it in a different way, a best friend is someone whom touched you in a different way, something that may be hard to describe but surely you’re the only people whom knows how it feels to be in that position to be valued by the person whom you had grown to love, your first sister and a first bond that had not been broken. We may be apart but I can still feel the string that ties us together. Just like a kitkat you cannot truly savour the taste with only a piece.

Our friendship is just like ‘KitKat’ it leaves an aftertaste that we’ll never forget.
