Just some of my thoughts I’d like to share after seeing the main casts- Jackie Chan & Daniel Wu of “Shinjuku Incident” in their promotion tour.
Probably you’ve heard of Jackie Chan’s new movie called “Shinjuku Incident”? Anyways, I happened to be in the area by coincidence, I saw that tonight at 7.30pm, Jackie Chan & Daniel Wu would be present to promote their new movie.
How lucky I was!!!
I’ve been watching Jackie Chan’s movies since I was a kid & he’s an international star.
I think Daniel Wu is cool too. He seems to be the perfect kind of guy.
I couldn’t believe I’m going to get to see them in the flesh!
The whole square where the event was held was overcrowded with their loyal fans.
I can see some girls screaming & getting hyper over seeing the tall, dark & handsome-Daniel Wu.
But mostly, I think they are Jackie Chan’s fans. C’mon, who doesn’t like him???
Finally at 8.15pm, they arrived in a white limo van, Jackie was wearing a casual tan jacket with a simple black shirt & pants, whereas Daniel was wearing grey pants & a fitting dark colored T-shirt which shows off his lean body.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a good shot of both of them, I was furious with myself that I forgot to record the process.
Jackie Chan was very down-to-earth & friendly. He is extremely good with the crowd.
Daniel is slightly more quiet & laid-back, but he made it up with his perfect smiles & friendly waves to acknowledge his fans. One thing I liked best was that even in the heat of excitement, they didn’t fail to make sure that their fans are safe & unhurt. At one point, there was a loud noise in the crowd & Jackie immediately asked whether they are okay.
However, what motivated me to write about this was a lovely old lady in red.
The old lady should probably be in her 70’s or 80’s. She was dressed in eye-catching red. In case you don’t know, for the Chinese culture, red is considered as the color of prosperity, which is why the elders would require the young to wear red during special occasions. So, I’m guessing that “this” was a special occasion for her.
She was standing alone, but her eyes shone bright with excitement & she was giving her whole attention to the stage. She was struggling to see & hear what Jackie is saying over the crowd & noise. Intuitively, I asked whether she came here to meet Jackie Chan by purpose. Here’s what she said:
“Yes, you’re right. I came by here purposely. I’ve been waiting for 26 years to see Jackie Chan. But as you see it’s only for a mere few minutes. They were supposed to meet at the cinema too, but it was cancelled. You young fellows can wait for another 26 years, but me?”
“Btw, who’s the person in charge? I want to discuss something with him.”
Then, she left my side & walked purposefully to the crowd-control securities.
———
It was a shocking revelation.
It was so sweet & very, very sad in a way. She waited for 26 years to see Jackie Chan in flesh, but she was too far away from the stage. At that moment, I felt the sudden urge to help her fulfill her wish to meet Jackie Chan in person but alas… I just felt so helpless.
I sincerely hope she will meet Jackie Chan in person someday, somehow. I really hope so.
As for me, I will never forget that lovely lady in red, ever.
