Me, what I am doing, what I should be doing.

Hi my name is Nicholas and this my first on-line article, EVER! I am a High school graduate and I joined the United States Navy in hope that I can someday go to MIT. Why was the Navy my choice? I chose the Navy because it offered me the chance to see the world, a great job, and school. Did you know the navy pays for your schooling while you are enlisted or on reserve? Since I am in the Navy I won’t be going to a 4 year university anytime soon but I sure can take some classes. Or at least that’s what my recruiter told me. I always thought that I would never join the military, but as I got to my senior year in High school, I began to question whether or not I was ready for college. So I had to think of a ”plan B.”  As it turned out ”plan B” was community college. I thought to myself, “Do I really need to? And if I do I’ll be living with my mother till I transfer out to a university.” So I thought of a ”plan C.” Plan C was a hard decision as it turned out to be military.

At this time I was living in in Alameda County, in California. I went to a couple of recruiting offices: Arny, Marines, Air force, and Navy. Out of all of these I chose the Navy. Whats comes next is paperwork(painful). but before you finish the paperwork you do a practice Aptitude Test called the ASVAB. I did and scored a 70/99. I thought I did well, but I did awesome. That score was able to get me any job. After I turned in all the paperwork, and took my physical, I was an officially a DEP Recruit. For those of you who don’t know, DEP stands for Delayed Entry Program, which leads me into the actual start of this article.

As a DEP Recruit, I am one of the laziest people you will know. I have a manual called the “DEP PQS”, that requires me to study everything inside it. I nowknow everything inside. Everything went well untill I graduated Highschool. I bought myself a PSP-Playstation Portable, and I was hook on it. I still am. The only time I put it down was when I needed to clean something or go somewhere. On top of the PSP I now have a laptop. And since I graduated I had no more school, so I decided to sleep in. Well at RTC-Recruit Training Command(bootcamp)-i’ll be waking up around 6 a.m. so no sleeping in.

Why am I putting aside my supposed to be daily training for RTC? The answer is that in RTC you have no outside communication, no email, no iPod, no PSP, no Laptop,or any other electronics of anykind. So before I go I put my time into something I want to do. Life is hard. Should I keep playing my games? It kills braincells, or at least thats  what my mother says. Should I be writing this Article? Well since i guess the point is to stop people from putting things off till the last minute I should be.

Well this is only the first part of the article, I want to make my articles in parts because first it makes them look shorter, and second easier to read. I’ll post the second half on Thursday 1st of October.
