My writing experience.
My earliest memory of writing of any kind was such a long time ago, but I remember it distinctively. When I was in 3rd grade, I had to write half a page paragraph describing my parents, and that memory helped me develop into full essays and journal entries. I learned how to write prior to elementary school by my parents teaching me, and throughout my elementary school, and I have continued to learn how to write throughout high school as well. Many experiences with literature influenced my writing skills, but some are more memorable than others, ranging from reading a piece of literature to listening to full lectures on the art of the language.
My first encounter with written literature that affected my way of writing was when I first read a poem of some sort in 3rd grade. The poem further outlined elements involved in literature ranging from alliteration, rhyme, rhythm, etc, and some of the above elements are used in essays and other short writings. As I learned different writing styles, my range of pieces began to broaden, and I had a better idea of how to write as well as what to write. Literature teachers drastically affected my ability and view on writing because my writing skills were molded upon their influences and views upon the world of writing. Good English teachers affected my writing positively and vice versa.
Practicing drawing is a part of learning the art itself, and it’s certainly no exception when it comes to writing. Other than the writing involved inside class time as well as the assignments involved outside the class, free style writing such as letters, poetry has positively affected my writing development because as I practiced, I learned more and was able to use more. Through writing and practicing a lot as well as reading, these above patterns helped shape up and sharpen my sense of writing. Different forms of writing have varying degrees of difficulty, while I find reflective pieces to be easiest since it’s centered around oneself and his/her own experiences, formal pieces such as letters are harder since the format, tone, and style is different from everyday writing. Instructional approaches such as guiding through a writing style or listing out tips and tricks to format and tone the paper is helpful for my writing process.
My family has helped me tremendously and influenced me on my reading and writing by providing for me literature to read, and showing me pieces of writing. My experiences with French language has helped me improve verb tenses, sentence structure, and showed me how different languages have the same literature rules and styles. Throughout my current life, I have learned and developed my writing, and I hope that I will furthermore perfect it during the high school years as well as beyond. My attitude toward composition has stayed constant through my different experiences, and I have gained a lot of knowledge about literature and the ways to express it on paper.
