After deciding to live a more healthier lifestyle, I have kept you up to date with the developments of my new allotment, well after a lot of hard work my partner and i sat down to a lovely home grown salad tonight and reaped the rewards of our hard labours…

Well here it is………..the fruits of our labours!

After a lot of hard work for the past three months or so my partner and i finally sat down to a delicious meal made entirely from our own “Home Grown” produce.

Everything that you can see in the photo above was grown entirely by ourselves from the juicy lettuce leaves and boiled new potato’s to the grated carrot and free range home laid hen eggs, and to be honest it was absolutely delicious and the taste comparison over supermarket bought produce was out of this world!

Everything grown on the allotment is completely organic, no pesticides or fertilisers have been used and only organic and healthy techniques were used to deter slug and aphid attacks, the eggs were supplied by our organically fed and free range housed hens, you can taste the freedom in there eggs which are rich in flavour and have golden orange yolks (unlike the forced miserable eggs from supermarkets!)

After a small financial outlay of buying seeds etc we are now unindated in fresh produce which tastes divine and to think we will now be supplied right through to the winter months is quite unbelievable really, we intend to blanche and freeze some of the produce to keep us supplied right through the colder months of winter so even for Christmas dinner we will be eating our own vegetables!

I find it truly fulfilling working my own little piece of land and watching my small seedlings grow into large productive plants that return there favour by feeding me, and my hens return the pleasure of a healthy and happy life by giving me large tasty eggs on a daily basis, i couldn’t honestly ask for more in my life, we are working outside breathing healthy fresh air in the middle of the countryside surrounded by friends who are always on hand to help us, growing are own food and doing our own little bit for the environment……………………… we are so lucky to have what we have and grateful for our good health.

So as the title says………we really are living “The Good Life”.

My father would certainly agree with you….he grows everything too! You go for it, as food costs increase over here in the UK, this is the way forward! Now, if you grow some bamboo, you could have a ‘pole’ too……

I grow vegetables too because when i go to the market they are so expensive. Not to mention when most of them were stolen from a farm that had recently been sprayed. Our health is the most important and if growing our own vege and rearing our own animal is the way to have a good life; i agree 100%. Keep up your style, i admire it.
