I don’t know about you, but electrical equipment is not in the cards for me. This is about the day (last weekend) that my partner wired our house with new gadgets.

I would consider myself pretty much a Jill of all trades. If a picture needs to be hung I can manage the hammer, if the furniture needs moving or cleaning I can also manage that, but when it comes to anything electronic I am of no use. I could not figure out how to plug in the VCR if my life depended on it and I am not exaggerating much.

Anyways my partner is the complete opposite, he loves anything that has power going into it and wires, wires every where. Now we live in a small apartment, three rooms and a bath. Small but fine for just the two of us and Kittunni. Everything we need on a small scale, but all of that has changed recently.

Since my partners return from India he decided we needed a high tech stereo system. Why is beyond me, but I go go along with the flow most of the time. Anyways, he ordered three different surround sound systems which all were delivered to my work. Now these were not small boxes and me trying to get them to my van was some what no fun at all, never mind climbing the  flight of stairs to the apartment. Some how with some help from my sweetie we got them upstairs. He also ordered an I Pod Touch, a Apple air jack, and an Apple TV, plus multiple cables. I have no clue what any of the above even do, hahaahah, but once there the fun began.

He opened the boxes with such excitement, like it was a child at Christmas time. Unpacking all the components and wondering how they connect to the entire house. I sat there as an onlooker wondering why on earth in this tiny apartment we needed all of this crap. I have never been very materialistic and this time was no different. After a half hour I retired to the bedroom to watch tv and relax. I had no desire to witness the happenings of my living room.

I could hear him out there in the living room connecting this and moving that and soon he appeared in our bedroom asking me for help. I giggled and said, ya right, you want my help, but got up and held the hammer and nails as he ran the wires up the door casing and over the doors to where the speakers were to be mounted. That was my one and only job the entire day for this project, thank God !

After the speakers were mounted off to the 5 channel receiver he zoomed to figure out how to control room by room music. The IPod Touch was in full swing as the tunes began to play. He seemed so amazed by it all, pushing this button and that to see what each ones function was. For me it was nice, but also annoying when you are trying to watch tv with music in the background. One second American music, the next Indian tunes. I took this for awhile and asked him to turn it off in the bedroom cause I felt as if my head would explode from confusion. He complied with hesitation.

Ahhhh…finally no music and my TV. My one and only electronic in the universe I care about, my flat screen 32 inch HD television. Next thing I knew he was asking me to come check out the Apple TV, ok I wasnt impressed, but he was in his glory, next was the air jack to make whatever you like wireless. Crazy gadgets out there I must say. The I pod is the romote for everything, which is another amazment to me. No more 10 remotes, one to control TV, one to control stereo, one to control Wii, wow so many, but now down to all in one. The only trick to this one is the I Pod touch cant leave the house unless no one wants to control all the gadgets it has possession over. I guess that means he will be buying me one of those things shortly…lol. I must say out of all the things he purchased the I Pod touch I give great reviews, it is so simple to use, even me the anti geek can operate it.

It has been a few days now and he is still  in his splender with it all. He did send back the Apple air jack cause it did not seem to want to do what it was supposed to, but all the other things have made their home in our home. I guess one day maybe I will figure out how to use the dam stuff, but until then living with a member of the Geek Squad does have its advantages.

Lol! This sounds just like my husband. I’ve been dealing with this since we were 17. Now 15 years later, it’s the same stuff. He was also like a kid when he installed our wall speakers and surround sound. Then we had to watch Star Wars.. of all movies, just for the sound effects..lol. Boys will be boys. They never change with their toys. Take care.

Great job! That’s great that you have someone with you who knows how to fix electronic things like that. I agree that it does sound like a great arrangement. :)

I love playing with gadgets! I take my iPod touch everywhere! I browse the internet on it, use the notepad for leaving myself reminders, check my e-mail, use the calculator, get directions, and of course… listen to music! But when it comes to installing anything electrical… no way!
