A looking-glass view tainted with compassion for the struggling man. Food for thought.

When you’re down and out no one seems to notice you and everything seems to be against you but when your up and about, everyone’s your best friend or your most loyal fan. I never understood why people said, “the strong survive and the weak…” but I later came to realize it was the bitter truth. I also realized that everyone’s a killer in their own way so who really a criminal?

Being broke was no joke to me but I was happy unlike most because I was a fighter and I would not circum to it’s demands. Being broke is a criminal act in the making because when your broke and no one wants to give you a chance you learn to work with what you got. You also learn to embrace that rule keeping at foremost part of the brain if you want to live or else pain and suffering would plague your life.

Most criminal’s never intended on being a criminal but got caught in the “struggle”. Now the struggle is different for everybody but to me the struggle was becoming successful in life and who wouldn’t want to be? I sold drugs and resorted to other things to accomplish my goal because even though I looked for a job everyday, there was never a beacon shining in my direction.

It’s funny how you could do some of the most immoral and vile acts and the act you get booked for is incomparable but I must thank God, I guess. At nineteen years old when I retired from the badness I was harassed by the police and taken down for a bag of weed which I never possessed. I know now that jail is not a nice place.

Many people I knew growing up were locked up and some are still locked up to this day. A lot of the people I saw arrested growing up were in violated and could not defend themselves. Who could defend themselves against the United States Of America when your broke, everyone’s against you and most of all you don’t know your rights.

“A marijuana smoker is locked up every 45 seconds,” and there are more serious offenses being committed more frequently than that. [Fn. 1] Can you believe that? This is an absolute waste of tax dollars. Trust me the facts get me interesting. The same site goes on to say “We’re also a nation overrun with robbers, rapists, murderers, wife beaters, child molesters. We say we’re petrified of them. Yet we’re releasing them first from overcrowded jails so dope smokers can take their cells.” [Fn. 1] Are you kidding me? Where is the Justice?

A lot people who grew up with me smoke weed and for them it’s a vacation that they could never afford so why is smoking marijuana treated as gateway to crime? With, “Four million Americans were arrested for marijuana violations, the vast majority for simple possession, during [President Bill] Clinton’s reign” you have to question is this just a money making scheme or another means to giving the average individual a criminal record? [Fn. 1] Here is some information which may help you decide. “Though there aren’t enough cells for violent criminals, marijuana smokers and smalltime dealers are going to prison by the thousands-sometimes for life.” [Fn. 1]

I am still jobless and aiming for success but with the way things are progressing I have to wonder will I make it?

you bring up a lot of interesting points, that\’s for sure. I mean… you\’re just smoking something, right? I it\’s not like, as you said, you\’re hurting anyone with it. i think the people who should really go to jail are like the alcoholics who drink and drive. Then you can really hurt someone…

Interesting piece! “For it is not what enters a pesron from the outside and passes through him that determines who he is, but rather what is on the inside that comes out!” -Jesus

Want a solution? Legalize pot for sale by the government only. You get a new cash crop, you can control the quality of weed (No rocky glued togethered…), and the strength. As far as I’m aware Weed has been linked with psychological disorders, but only if smoked in large ammounts, and/or the super strength strains.

Weed does not in itself have an effect on motivation unless you’re actually stoned. Once you come down, you are just as capable as anyone else. Weed will be problematic for some people as they may well be addicted to the sensation of being high. But then again we have alcoholics and we don’t ban alcohol.

Weed is not a gateway drug. Less than 1% of people who use weed have moved on to ‘harder’ drugs. Some may experiment with drugs supplied from the same sources as thier weed, but most will draw the line at a blunt.

People should be free to use drugs if they so desire, provided that the drugs in question do not have a permenant effect on thier ability to live. Highly addictive substances like heroin present a conondrum in this regard though. But as a point to that- nicotine. One of the most addictive (and incidentally most toxic) substances on the planet. Yet it’s legal.

I was recently popped for possesion when I was pulled over for a faulty tail light. I am a 40 year old college student that has a 3.8 GPA. Now I have to pay $815.00 in court costs, have a restricted lisence for 6 months, and attend drug treatment at $10.00 per individual meeting and $5.00 per group meeting. All this over one joint. I don’t drink or do other drugs yet I have to go thru this. I don’t get in fights or cause trouble, yet I have to go thru this. I don’t get it.
