I never considered myself unique, but people always tell me, are a miracle. To me it was a normal guy with realistic goals and big dreams. I was a student of 19 years at the University of Texas and on my way to fulfill my dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

On the night of 17 February 1981 that he was studying for an Organic Chemistry test at the library with Sharon, my girlfriend of three years. Sharon had asked me, as his journey back to the bedroom, was always too late. We have in my car, not realizing that just arrived in a car is not the case for me again. I quickly realized that my gas gauge was registered on empty so I stopped at a nearby supermarket to 2.00 the value of gas to buy. Ill be back in two minutes, I yelled at Sharon as I closed the door. But instead, those two minutes changed my life forever.

Top of the convenience store was like entering the twilight zone. Out of that was healthy, athletic, pre-medical student, but inside I was another statistic of violent crime. I thought I was entering an empty store, but suddenly I realized it was empty. Three robbers were in the process of committing a robbery and my entrance into the store by surprise. One of the criminals immediately shoved .38 caliber pistol to the head, ordered me to the cooler, pushed to the floor, and pumped a bullet into the back execution style. I suppose I thought he was dead because he had not fired again. The trio of thieves finished removing the tent and went silent.

Meanwhile, Sharon wondered why he did not return. After seeing the three men leave the store really began to worry as it was the last person she saw entering the store. He soon came to find me, but nobody saw only a hand almost empty, well, to see a few cents.

Sharon quickly dropped to the ground crying, have you seen my friend? Her hair is brown. The man did not reply, but returned in the refrigerator, where I was choking on my vomit. The employee quickly cleaned my mouth and then called police and an ambulance.

Sharon was in shock. He began to realize that it was wrong but could not begin to understand and imagine the severity of my injury.
