The wildlife and nature can be a beautiful sight to see until you’re starring smack into the eyes of a opossum.
Opossums are normally nocturnal but with winters being a dangerous season for the species don’t be surprised if you see one in broad daylight. The cold weather and frozen surface’s and piled high snowfalls make it harder for them to forage for a meal. Therefore despite the fact that they are nocturnal it either has to occasionally come out during day or starves to death.
I had an encounter with one as I looked it dead in its black eye’s. It shocked me at first I was in the kitchen washing up some dishes when I noticed through the window a furry creature. At first I thought it must be a squirrel. I took a double look and saw that big um grossly of a tail it has and knew right away it was an opossum.
Excited about the visit from the wildlife I ran and grabbed my camera because I wanted to snap a few shot’s, since it’s such a rare occasion that you see an opossum in your yard, right in the middle of the day. I watched it trail around the yard across the snow until it was making its way up upon our deck, this was when I really got a good close up shot of it. As it kept coming nearer I decided to wait by the door. Then I zoomed in on it, but the close up shot startled me so I ran from the door.
I hope the poor thing found something to feast upon, as I surely don’t feed the wildlife and one visit was nice but I would like to keep it at that, just one encounter.
