People never believe when I say my qualification, because I work in BPO and my qualification is M.Sc. in Microbiology. At times I also wonder why am in BPO. But believe me, BPO is an excellent industry where everyone can improve and empower their communication and attitude.
People never believe when I say my qualification, because I work in BPO and my qualification is M.Sc., in Microbiology. At times I also think why am in BPO… But believe me, bpo is an excellent industry where everyone can improve and empower their communication and attitude.
I completed my post graduation in 2005 and started trying to fetch a job from day one of completion. I started distributing my resumes like our daily newspapers to each and every biological research centers and hospitals. I haven’t left even an educational institution. But, you will not believe the attitude of every biological company, which ask’s for an instant question, “do you have any reference or recommendation”, nor “do you have any work experience”. People on earth grow faster in lifestyle but their mind actually doesn’t change… can I get an experience immediately out of college, or is that not possible for fresher to get a good job opening.
After sic months of continuous journey in finding a good job without any references or recommendations, I finally decided to compromise to go for any job other than my qualification.
I attended an interview in a BPO industry for the 1st time. The first round was a group discussion, which I cleared and went into the second round which was written test. Cleared through every round and finally sat in front of HR for final interview. The first question was, “why are you here after completing Microbiology”. I narrated my journey in search of jobs to the HR, and after so many discussions, HR appointed me.
I was really very happy about the appointment letter in my hand, but at the same time I felt really bad about the BPO job. The society always has negative impact on bpo industry. With so many hesitations, I stepped into the bpo company.
To be frank, in the first week of my entry, I just thought of stepping out of the company due to the work pressure. But thinking of the job journey which I had earlier, I stayed quietly because I got fed up with the repeated interviews and questions. Finally after 6months, I started to learn more from my job.
BPO industry has variety of people with different cultures and languages. Different practices and behaviors. I started to learn more about people and culture. And most of all, my communication.
Even though I studied in matriculation, and completed Microbiology in English, I lagged in communication skills. If you were a friend of mine, definitely you will find the difference in my conversation and usage of words after working in BPO. I’m working in an UK based process and I communicate only through voice. Initially I really found it difficult, but in 1 or 2 months, I just improved a lot in my communication.
Next to communication, I would really say the leadership skills. Team work, mentoring a team, group discussions, expression of new ideas, development of interpersonal skills and meetings with higher officials are regular practices in BPO from which we determine ourselves.
So, really if you feel you are lagging in communication and wanted to improve your communication skills and find yourself what you can, I would really say with my experience, JOIN A BPO AND WORK FOR ATLEAST 6MONTHS. You will really find a good way in your life…
