Life from the point of view of a cat.
Hi everyone. Do you like my name? A nice name for a nice station in life maybe. The truth is I didn’t always live in such grandeur, but nowadays I have it made. I came to live with my family when I was six weeks old, and although I was known as the runt of the litter, what I lacked in size, I made up for with my feisty and bossy nature. No-one was ever going to get the better of me!
They thought I was a boy, so they called me Charlie, but when I went to the vet, he told my mistress that I was a girl. They continued to call me Charley, spelt in the girl’s way, but I always like to think of myself as Lady Charlotte.
I’ve been living with them for over twenty years now, seen all the children grow up and leave home, and although my sight isn’t so good now, I still lead a normal life, go in and out of my cat door when it suits me, eat my food, and sit on laps purring.
I’ve got Keith totally under my spell, and he will do anything for me. Sometimes I’ll chance my luck and turn my nose up at my cat food, it can get a bit boring at times you know. I know he will worry that I haven’t eaten, so up will come a nice tin of salmon, or some chicken to tempt me. Keith really is a pushover.
Carol is soft with me too. When I was younger, I spent most of my time outside, mice and bird stalking was my scene, especially at night, although when I captured my prize, I only ever took a mouse inside once, as Carol was not impressed, and stood on a chair screaming for help. Humans are funny aren’t they? The mouse was dead, and it couldn’t hurt her.
Now that I’m older, I spend a lot of my time on laps, purring because I love warmth and comfort, and our house has plenty of that. Carol brushes me, and whenever she takes me to the vet, he always exclaims, and says he has never seen a cat of my age in such good condition. I swish my tail proudly, and act the haughty lady, after all my name is Charlotte, and that is very grand.
