Going through the 9/11 attacks.

I’d never given much thought to the new life I carried inside me.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved her more than anything in the world.  She was also something that showed my love for my husband.  I just didn’t see anything special.  I was just like every other pregnant woman, so I never thought in a million years that my world was going to change on the morning of September 11th, 2001.

I was getting ready for my monthly doctor’s appointment.  My husband had come home from work and was watching the morning news.  I could hear Good Morning America on as I came down the stairs.  I glanced over and saw that he was starting to fall asleep after a hard night of work.  I walked into the kitchen and got some cereal.  I came back into the living room and listened to my husband regal me with the events of the night.  I smiled every so often.  He always knows what stories will brighten my day when our baby that I carried had given me a sleepless night.  I got up and placed my bowl into the sink as he kept on about some drunk that they had scared.  He smiled at me flashing those blues eyes that caused my heart to skip a beat.

                “You’ll be careful, right?”

“Of course I will, I’ve got my headphones and my information for when I go to the WIC office.  I’ll be right home afterwards.  I promise,” I said.  I leaned into him and gave him a soft kiss.  “We’ll be back soon.  You go and enjoy your sleep while we’re gone.”

With that, I left our home and started up Hollins Ferry Road.  I placed my head phones on and switched on MIX 106.5.  I don’t remember what song was on, but I knew it was one I liked.  I sang along a little since no one was around to really hear me.  I had just passed a church when the news came across the radio.  A plane had hit the World Trade Center Tower in New York City.  What??  Did I hear that correctly??  No, it must be a mistake!  How could the pilot NOT see that building?  EVERYONE knew it was there.  Maybe it was a plane malfunction.  Maybe I heard it wrong.
