This is how I advised myself today.
Yes, I choose to call these just ‘no’ days. A ’negative’ day may be too compelling for the description.
These days keep nagging us until we take a decision to put them in place. These ‘no’ days are days when
you have to do things contrary to your wishes-perhaps, you have to attend a meeting or a farewell, or you have to just be there with people you do not have much to do with.
Wherein your absence or your presence may not be noticed and you can fairly afford to skip. Taking a decision
does become a burden here. It is better to decide before long the ‘no’ syndrome pins us down completely.
Asking these questions to oneself could help.
1. Will my absence go entirely unnoticed?
2. Won’t there be invisible eyes trying to assess my attitude towards the organization or society?
3. How about coping with the general feeling-‘if we could come, why you couldn’t?’
4. How important to me is the brownie point that I may earn by just showing up there?
5. Will I be at peace with myself tomorrow after taking this chance of absence, today?
After weighing the consequences, if your staying back does not affect you, its fine. If you decide otherwise, making an effort to brush off all second thoughts could help.
Also we should not forget that many like us may be grappling with the same thoughts, whether to go or not to go.
Before you budge, take care to go straight to the mirror, adjust your facial expression and select a passable one lest you betray yourself.
