What is a Triond friend?

“Friendship, friendship, just a perfect kinship”.

These are a few lines from a song sung by Lucy and Ethel on an episode of “I Love Lucy”. I think they sum up a Triond friendship perfectly. Like Lucy and Ethel, Triond friends are the best. They look out for one another, they support each other, and you can always count on your Triond friends.

How do you make Trionds friends?

I posted my first story on Triond in March of 2007. I was applying for grant money to write my book and I need some published work to apply for the grants I needed. I had tried for months to publish stories in magazines for children. I was turned down repeatedly. My husband found Triond and thought I should try it. I was so excited to see my name and work published that I cried. Then the friendships started.

I didn’t know anything about Triond friends. I found my first comment and decided to look him up and read his material. Then another comment and another person to look up and read. At that time, you did not post comments with your Triond profile and sometimes it was hard for a newbee like me to find the wonderful people who liked my stories. Making friends and learning how to add them was trial and error, but I did it.

Then I had to learn how to be a good Triond friend. A good friend reads you works and leaves you comments, as I said we support each other. Now, being a good and true Triond friend is hard work. We all have busy lives and between working, writing, living our lives and everything else we all have to do, being a Triond friend is hard. However, anything worth having takes work and believe me my true Triond friends are worth it. I may not have a chance to check out all my friends’ new posts and photos everyday but I always play catch up. This is how I do it. First, I check my dashboard for new posts. I then click onto your profile page and work until I have hit all you new posts. Sometimes if you don’t have anything new, I will read forward some of your older posts. I sometimes find when I check your profile; I missed a great story, article or picture. What a shame it would be to me to miss your latest adventure.

Now, I do have a pet peeve, those who want to be my friend but never read my posts. How can you send me a message that you love my work but I have never seen a comment from you? When I receive these, I read some of their new and old post and send them a message stating I would love to be their friend, if they would like to be mine. After several weeks of reading their posts and leaving comments with no reciprocation, I sadly remove them as my friend.

In closing, I would like to ask my readers to nominate a true Triond friend. Someone who knows what friendship is about and how to be a good and true friend. Since this is my article, I am going to name quite a few.

Nick Kinney, my first Triond friend, he gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going. His comments made me smile and feel like I was a real writer. At this time because of his work schedule, Nick, is unable to post many stories or comments. His friends miss him and we look forward to his return. If you read this, Nick, your Triond friends love you.

A list of my true Triond friends:

These dear friends are not posting at this time. But they know how to be a true Triond friend.

  • Mary Contrary
  • Loreta Dorington
  • Eden Emersen
  • Kathy Spring

If you have never read these fine writers please check out their profiles, they are the finest group of friends anyone could ever ask for; if they are your friends, you are blessed.

I will add yourself Pam! Thanks for being my friend and I agree with your article.

How spooky is this, yesterday cleaned out my friends box! Those who are left on my profile are who I nominate!

  • Loreta Dorington on Jan 28, 2009

If I would nominate a Triond friend, you will be one of those I would nominate. You have taught me how to be a good Triond friend. You always take the time to tell me what you think of my post and you even send me messages. Lately, I\’ve been away and when I open my private page, there I found your messages asking me if everything is ok with me. Thank you for being such a good, thoughtful and patient friend. God bless you my friend.

Pam, as always, nice piece of work.

A very interesting article you have here Pam, Yes, whether it is in Triond or in other sites, friends should be treated as friends, not chess pieces that we can manipulate its move.. I’m not bragging but just like Pam, i see to it that all my friends are viewed before I say it a day at Triond though at times i have to play catch up.. That should be the attitude we should have. If you have many friends then bear the burdens that goes with it or simply limit your friend to avoid facing this predicament.. There are few pepole then and now that I may call true friends but your asking for just one friend.. Guess You Pam, Debra, Loreta,Lauren, Chris, Lianne, Bren, Norbert, Onofre,Payge, Bo, Joel, Fegger, Melody, Virginia, Melody, MJ Patrick. Leannehume and some other fellows I Love you all guys) will not get mad at me if I nominate my first Triond friend, Glynis who have given me words of encouragement and have shown her thoughtfulness upon me.

Wow! Am I missing out on anything here? I’m a newbie and have been making a few friends. Just so amazed you guys have found a lot of real friends here.. I hope, in time, I’d be considered one, too.
You surely touched me on this one! Awww…

  • B Nelson on Jan 28, 2009

you are correct, and what is interesting is that one time – a few months ago, myself and my husband, who also writes for Triond got the exact same (cut and paste) message from somebody claiming to have read our links… liked them so much.. related to them… blah blah blah.. because we both got the same message, and I assume others did too, its very unlikely the person had read anything of either of ours.
I am sorry I havent read your things lately we are busy with 3 bottle baby lambs.

  • Ruby Hawk on Jan 28, 2009

Pam, You started out the same way I did. I have found so many good friends here and like you I have those people who send me messages saying how much they like my work but have never left a comment. I do look at their work and comment but if I never see a comment from them I drop them. As you say it takes a lot of hard work. It is time consuming but it’s well worth it. It is so much easier since we can find friends who comment on our work. I always read their work first, comment and then go on to community. I used to spend so much time just looking for those who left comments on my work and sometimes I couldn’t find them.

I have a very hard time keeping up on who my friends all are, with the slow dial up internet, I maybe check in 4 times a week or so. But I do know some names always stand out and I try to check their articles when I have the chance. Occassionally dial up willnot/cannot load longer sites with multiple pictures, such as RJ Evans sites, and its frustrating, because it looks like I dont care. I often try to check one site of peoples when they published many in one time, as such with people posting many pictures.

  • Yovita Siswati on Jan 29, 2009

I started like any other newbie, and ended up having so many good and encouraging friends as time goes by. Sometimes I have difficulties in keeping up, as I still tied up with my job and can ony access internet with my cellphone when I am home. Anyway Triond is a great site to make real and new friends everyday! Btw, thanks for mentioning my name Nobert, you a a great friend of mine too!

  • PR Mace on Jan 29, 2009

Thank you all my dear friends. I am so sorry this article is messed up. As I said it is missing the beginning and the ending. I listed all my friends. I wanted you all the see your names. I hope it is corrected soon. You are all a great group.

    Love to you all, Pam

  • PR Mace on Jan 29, 2009

I consider as friends those who are willing to criticize my work. Getting empty compliments does not mean that much to me.

  • Brian Daniel Stankich on Jan 30, 2009

Pam, thanks for the love! I do appreciate it. Wow, I have a number of faithful Triond friends and I hate to leave any of them out. So…what I’d like to do is mention a couple of them who I feel a truer friendship towards, not just based upon readership/followership etc.: Debra Mann and Karen Gross. In addition, nutuba is a growing truer friend of mine. I am thankful for each of these three and would love to meet them in person some day.

    Thanks again Pam,
    Brian

  • Ruby Hawk on Jan 31, 2009

  • R.B. Parsley on Feb 6, 2009

    Pam,
So sorry about commenting so late, But when I first read this, I got interrupted for a very nice surprise. A really good friend of mine came to visit I hadn\’t seen in over twenty years. so I will make my nominations now. Nicholas Kenney, BC Doan, Lucy Lockett, Ruby Hawk, Lianne Schmidt, Lanne, Darlene McFarlane, Dee Huff, Alexa Gates, Kathy Spring, Jessica Fike,Nobert Soloria Bermosa, Roberto Sardelli, Tracy Sardelli,Glynis Smy, Mys Lyke Meeh, Christine Ramsay, Fegger, Eden Emersen, Louie Jerome, and of course Yourself Pam. Each and everyone of these fine outstanding people have supported me since my arrival here at Triond in June of 2007. Their support means more to me than mere words could ever express. They are what makes Triond a good home for my writing as well as for other beginning writers. It would take all night to nominate everyone I would love to put on this list. Those that aren\’t named here, are still in my thoughts and each of them are very much appreciated as well. And Thank You for nominating me also, Pam. You are the greatest!!!

    Randy

  • Kate Smedley on Mar 11, 2009

Great article, I\’ve not been on here long (only since January)but have made some great friends. What you have said about supporting friends is very true.

  • Tmrobotix on Mar 12, 2009

    Nice article!
A few friends to name: Poetic Enigma, Allison Jea, Lindalulu, BC Doan, Jackalina, to name some of my newer friends: Matt John, LOVELY HONEY, Mrdavidjohson, all great writers, enough to read for centuries!

    Thanks for the article!

  • Mary Contrary on Apr 5, 2009

Pam Thank you so much for this wonderful article. I know that I cannot honor all of you as much as I would like. My MS flares up and I can’t be online the way I want and I miss out on so much, but please believe me when I tell each and everyone one of you that I never ever forget your names and the wonderful posts you leave me. When I get stuck in bed I do read with my blackberry, but haven’t been able to leave posts with it for some dumb reason. Pam like so many others leave notes when I have been gone too long and it is amazing to be missed by people I have never met face to face! Everyone I will never clean out my friend box, because I know that some of you may have circumstances of your own such as mine. You are always free to come back to me! Thanks again for such a great article Pam, and I love your work and everyone else that takes the time to post here! You are all wonderful people! Be well all! :p

  • Daisy Peasblossom on Apr 5, 2009

Super information and suggestions. Nick Kenney was the one who got me started on having a friend list, and nudged my work in a more productive direction. Since then, Pam, Ruby and others keep me on my toes–and give me some great reading material. It has been months since I’ve had the mid-night “nothing to read” blues!

  • swatilohani on May 26, 2009
