Obituary Based on The Metamorphosis( a novella by Franz Kafka)

I knew Greg Samsa for many years. I was in shock when I heard that he passed away. It is pretty hard to get over the fact that your best friend, from when you were a child to getting your first job, has passed away. I can still remember him saying “James! Wake up! We’re going to be late for work!”, but now he is the one that won’t be waking up. I remember the first time I met him. It was in kindergarten when we met; I had fallen off the swing and scraped my knee. I was just sitting there crying, nobody really cared since I was smaller them most people. But Greg came up to me and helped me get a bandage. From that day on we were good friends. We found out that we both had similar interests. He liked photography just like me. We went to the same highschool and same college. We even worked at the same firm. He really hated working there. I asked him why he still works at the firm. He said that he had to pay of his parents debts to the chief. That was the first time that I ever felt bad for him, not the other way around. You see almost all my life Greg was the one taking care of me, protecting me from bullies etc…. After I heard this, I thought to myself. He loves photography but he works here because of his parents. Every day at work he would talk about his family. He would say how his father was a great sales man, how his mother was an amazing cook, and how his sister could play the violin beautifully. Greg was an amazing guy, he was going to be an amazing brother-in-law too. The love of Greg’s life, Lisa, was also my sister. Greg and Lisa were dating for a long time. He would tell me how much he loved Lisa, and Lisa loved him the same way. Greg told me that he would ask Lisa to marry him and after he had paid his father debts of to the Chief. As my grandpa always said, “A friend is like the north star, you look to them when you lose your way”. My North Star is now gone, and I believe that everyone here has lost a bit of themselves when Greg passed away.
