The geyser in Yellowstone National Park.

When I was a child I remember my parents taking me to Yellowstone National Park. I remember seeing an abundance of wildlife. One thing that made an impression on me was the geyser Old Faithful.

About ten or twelve years ago I went back to visit Yellowstone. While there are still so many sights to see I was once again drawn to Old Faithful. Old faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The geyser jets 3700 to 8400 gallons of boiling water an average of 145 feet in the air. Old Faithful was named by the Langford- Doane expedition in 1870. They were there in what would become Yellowstone making maps and documenting trails and geological surveys. They observed Old Faithful would erupt every hour.

Over time changes in environment, earthquakes and seasons have caused Old Faithful to erupt 90 minutes apart. Old Faithful is not the biggest of the geysers however it is the best known. And still remains one of the most popular attractions.

While I am fully aware there is much to do while visiting Yellowstone you must not miss seeing Old Faithful.
