Scene 1

{the scene opens on a living lounge where a girl is going through mail addressed to her and her brother is lounging a little further away on a sofa, busy with messaging on his phone. While shuffling through the letters, she sees one and shrieks excitedly, fumbling with opening it and when she reads it jumps up and shouts happily while the brother looks at her skeptically}

Samar : I got in I got in!!! I got the scholarship to LUMS! Woohoo!

Ryaan {rolls his eyes} : what a dork, getting excited over some scholarship.

Samar {scowls at him} : I worked my butt off to get this scholarship. Unlike ‘some’ people, I believe in hard work to get the positions I want. {turns to leave the room}

Ryaan {chuckles deridingly} : oh sure, that just proves my point. The weak always have to work the hardest {he yawns and stretches} why are you getting so excited anyway? Its not like dads gonna let you go, it’s a ‘co-ed’ university, I bet you never even talked to anyone from a co-ed, much less attend one.

Samar {stops at his words and turns around, tears in her eyes} : I ‘will’ go. He ‘will’ let me go! When he sees how hard I worked for it, and the scholarship, I mean, he doesn’t even have to pay for me! He will let me go, he will! {runs out and bangs the door on her way out}

{The scene ends with Ryaan chuckling and shaking his head, going back to his messaging}

Scene 2

{The scene opens up with the same setting, but this time with the father and Samar in a heated discussion, and her mother is speaking on Samar’s behalf}

Father {angrily shouting} : WHAT?! You want to go to that university? Are you out of your mind? Have you forgotten our values?

Samar : But why not abbu?? Ryan gets to go to Lahore! Why cant I?

Father : Because I said so, is that not enough? Don’t cross your limits Samar. You know Ryaan is a boy, he can take care of himself and is responsible enough to go to a co-ed university.

Samar : But haven’t I showed I’m responsible enough? I worked so hard, I got straight A’s and received a certificate of academic excellence! All Ryaan ever does is play sports and go out with his friends!
