Unemployment on the rise in Oregon and with winter coming it’ll probably climb.
I lived in Oregon in the early to mid 80’s. An aluminium plant had just closed down and all the jobs went with it. It was difficult to find a job then. There’s not that many jobs to begin with and too many people needing a job. Also if you went to another area to work, in the winter it either shut down or the main highway 80 would close too.
My sister and her family still live there. They have been fortunate because they redid and built and sold a house before the market went south. There are some jobs but it seems you have to know someone to be able to have a chance of getting the job.
I know teenagers once they graduate move from the little towns into the bigger ones like Portland.
The future for jobs in Oregon? Maybe beef up tourism. There’s snow all ready on the mountains which help the skiing industry. I just know with the winter coming up and if it’s an icy one things will get worse before they get better.
