Something I was excited about.
I was on the bus in 2nd grade and I saw a kid holding 2 cell phones. I assumed that they were just play phones that didn’t work. The kid was in second grade also. I said, “Those don’t really work, right?” He and his friend both said, “Yeah they do!” I didn’t believe him. “So then call someone on it!” I challenged. He said: “Ok.” He said he was going to call his mom. He did, and I heard it ringing. She didn’t answer, so I don’t know if he was lying or if the phones actually did work. I still don’t think they did, because we lived in the suburbs, and there was no reason to have a phone until like 5th or 6th grade, but to have 2 in 2nd grade was ridiculous.
I remember in 5th grade some kids started to get their own cell phones. A couple kids I knew got their own phones, but most kids didn’t have them. I remember in 6th grade my teacher said when we were going on a field trip, “You can bring your cell phones.” I remember feeling weird because I didn’t have one. Everybody except me said, “Yeessssssssss!”
A couple weeks later, I was lining up to get out of the classroom and get to my bus, and my friend Jack came up to me and said, “You need to get a phone.” He said it in a way that made me want one even worse than before. “I know. My parents won’t get me one,” I said. I had been begging them to get me one, but the answer was always no. They didn’t think I needed one. They kept saying, “There is a difference between and need.”
Whenever I went over a friends’ house, they were always texting and I always got really bored. When I learned that I was moving here I was really mad. There were only three things that I was actually excited about. The first one is that I am only here for a year or two. The second is that I would get to travel to amazing places, like France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and much more. The last reason is that I actually would get a phone.
For my birthday, my parents promised me a phone about $100 more than they would have normally paid. I was very glad because before I got that present I thought I was going to get one of those bad phones that doesn’t even slide or flip. My dad had found two phones that would be a good choice. The first one has a name I can’t remember. It slid out to a keypad. It was cool. The second one was a lot better. It was called LG KS360. It slid out to a full keyboard, and it had a touch screen for dialing numbers. I chose the second one. My dad had to go on a business trip to London anyway, so he was going to get it then. We were originally going to get it from O2, but they only sold it in this ugly light blue, so we got it from Orange in a titanium color. Everything worked out fine, and I really like it.
