An epiphany from the 1992 movie Prelude to A Kiss about aging and the fountain of youth.

One night while flicking through the tv with my remote I came across the 1992 movie Prelude to A Kiss with Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin, I have seen it before but oddly I always remember vividly the last part of the movie. This time as I was watching the last scene of the movie where Rita (Meg Ryan) and the old man were on the process of switching their souls or their spirits I had an epiphany and mind you it has nothing to do with what the movie is all about as it deals with the subject of true love and the body switch shows the notion of loving a person because of who she is and not because of what she looks like.

I honestly did not pay much attention to that I got something else out of the movie and I am not sure if I am right or wrong but I knew it all along and the movie has just reinforce it or maybe I am just finding a reason or an excuse for feeling the sign of ageing But as I said in previous post age is just a number and the truth is, which the movie has reminded me, is that the fountain of youth is really inside our minds, the way we think, the way we feel, if we really put our mind into something and wanting it so badly it will happen, that is how their spirits swap into each other’s body, the young bride wanting to be the old man for his wisdom, nothing to fear, as he has nothing to lose and the old man wanting to be the young bride with her whole future and life ahead of her.

It is the same thing with the notion of ageing, if we think and act old, letting time passes us by, letting ourselves to believe that we’re too old to do things that young people do and enjoy then we are letting ourselves grow old quicker but on the other hand if we live and think young, living with the times then we will not only feel young, we will also look young or at least lessen our wrinkles. There’s no rule that when you hit a certain age that you cannot do certain things, yes, as we grow older we do have limitations physically or medically but emotionally and mentally there’s no rule saying you cannot think, listen, watch, enjoy the company of the young and enjoy the feeling of just being young again.

Yes, we have responsibilities in life, children to raise, mortgage to pay, work to go to and all the other things that adults do but who says you cannot feel young and act young as if our whole life and future is still ahead of us instead of feeling we’re done, we’re settled, this is it for me and I have nothing more to lose and look forward to, there’s no shame to admit that you know who your kids are listening to, what movies they watch and what fashion or fad they’re in, grow old with the times and do not let yourself get stuck in a rut, we can always relive and remember our past, our youth and our era but we do not have to stay there.
