A story of My Grand Father’s success who started with nothing and ended with nothing.
My grand father is 92 years old now. He is old and slowly loosing his memory. He used to tell us- his grandchildren, the story of how he became rich. And before he forgets everything, let me share with you the story of his past.
With 4 siblings, they were raised by their farmer father and a plain housewife mother.
He said they were poor. Most of the times, they skip a meal in a day so that they still have something to eat for tomorrow.
One afternoon, his eldest brother (my real grand father) came from a whole day of fishing with small fishes in his net. He cooked it and served to himself. My grand father asked for a little because he was hungry but instead, he was told to wait till his brother finished eating and then he can eat all the left over food. Their mother can’t do anything about it because she too was ashamed that she can’t do anything to feed her family.
After 4th grade, he stopped schooling. He went to the city to find his luck. His parents can’t stop him because they both know that there’s no future for him in the province. Luckily, a relative took him home, made him their servant and in return, he’ll get free food and a place to sleep. The family has a tailoring business and they were actually kind to him that they allowed him to watch the tailors and let him learn. And so he learned.
With a lot of guts and no money to put as a capital, he left to find his destiny. Once again, he served the family of another business man. They saw his ability and lend him some money to start a small business.
He then put up a small tailoring shop in a city where Americans have a naval base and tourists come and go every day through ships and planes. After a year or so, his tailoring business boomed faster than expected. He paid his debt and showed an everlasting gratitude to the man who believed in his capability. He extended his business and added 5 more shops within the area. He also started to sell wood sculptures and crafts.
