When I say earn and learn with my children, I mean that it is a privilege to read to my children and watch them learn and I get to learn their learning style. Which helps me to be able to help them learn. 

I go to the library to rent movies, as they are free. I pick up every contest they have for kids to get into reading. This time they had 2 contest’s. Every-time I read to my 5 year old or she reads to me we color a picture on the contest entry form. After 10 stars she wins a prize after another 10 another prize, and on the last 10 yet again another prize, this time it is free book for her to choose. What better of a prize than another way to tap into your creativeness by reading a book. You can be any character you want to be, or be each one. She loves it.

Now my 10 year old does not like to read, what 10 year old boy does? So I get him to do it in a different way. We all lay down and I have him read one of my daughters books to us. I give her one star and he gets one star after reading two books to her, as they are not chapter books, which is what he should be reading for himself. Don’t get me wrong, I do make him read his own books for stars to but its also a good way for us all three to bond together and everyone feels included in what is going on. 

It teaches them that in the end the ultimate prize is a life time of knowledge and opportunity to read about what ever interests you.
