Lets Go Retro!
One of the best examples of a retro car would have to be the Fiat 500 or fiat “cinquecento” as it is known in Italy were the car was produced between 1957-1975. Designed by Dante Giacosa. The model was re-launched in March 2007exactly 50 years after fiat 500 was presented. Retro cars are coming back into fashion the fiat 500 is not alone with the BMW mini, Nissan Figaro and Volkswagen beetle following in suite. But the difference or what sets the fiat 500 apart from the competition is the price only €10,500. It has also won awards for car of the year in multiple countries and British-magazine Car called the fiat “irresistible“. There is a new sports version of the fiat 500 called the fiat 500 abarth released in 2008 which has much more horsepower bigger engine.
This small retro car from Japan manufactured in Japan was the only place that for a long time you could buy it but due to popularity is was sold overseas. Certain celebs in the UK have bought this car and most people try to emulate famous people and this can only increases the sales for Nissan. The first place the Figaro was seen was at the Tokyo motor show under the slogan “back tot the future” a famous film in America and the UK. These retro cars aren’t bought for performance but for some maybe the majority for the sentimental factor a way to hang on to the past or rather appreciates it.
I want convey a sense of familiarity to the piece of filming that I will be doing but also endeavour to create a separate and unique way in cars are looked at not only as automotive transport but art. I think personally that cars are made to please the eye and just like art there are nice well done cars and horrible looking ones. The way I am hopefully going to do this is do a top gear style informational piece to camera about cars but when doing interviews ask them things that you wouldn’t expect and maybe even ask people in the street if they like the cars that I happen to be filming and how does it make them feel would you be embarrass driving this down the road or better yet ask if there mum or dad drove them to school in it, I want ask all ages because by doing this I think it will be interesting to see what an old opinion of a very new conceptual car would be compared to that of someone of my age the results could be interesting and possible amusing. Laughter is a big part of TV and I would like to include it what I mean by this is to not take the show to seriously and make it boring to watch, more BBC three and less BBC four if you catch my drift.
I think the bets place to film would be a garage or shop that has all the types or retro cars that I want to film and hopefully get someone who works there to interview and learn about the cars. And get to film inside and out of the car, a point to take note I’m 17 and cannot drive the cars which in I think you will find every single piece on TV on cars someone at some point test drives the cars its like doing a show on food and not being able to taste it but I’m not letting this obstacle get in my way. This is a lesson for the future because a certain times things don’t go your way and you have to adapt but when they do go your way your one step ahead.
