Things that really matter.

Today I received a phone call. I was asked by the person on the line…. was it me that they called by name, to whom they were speaking to…. Now in my mind, I’m thinking, “yeah right, another person trying to get me to contribute to their cause, or someone trying to offer me some type of credit card deal.” I replied, “who wants to know?” After a few seconds, I got the response, “it’s a florist shop, trying to make a delivery.” Immediately I got excited. I wondered, “Did I win the publisher’s clearing house sweepstakes and would the prize patrol arrive at my door with balloons, roses, and a big fat check”.

I’m so excited, I run to the door, checking and looking up and down the street, waiting for my delivery. Primping and fixing my clothes for the photographers on the camera crew, my excitement was so infectious. I couldn’t stop smiling and waving at all of the vehicles traveling up and down the road while perfecting my princess wave. Nervously, I get up…sit down…. Pace backwards and forwards. Finally, a florist’s van pulls up. There are neither balloons nor fanfare, as they approach my steps with the most beautiful floral arrangement. I wonder in awe, “who could have possibly sent this and what’s the occasion.” Hesitantly, I pull out the card to read, “Have a nice day; hold your head up.” I realize they were from my best friend. I didn’t need to win any sweepstakes because I’m already a winner. I’ve been blessed with more than money can buy… I have a loving friendship; how priceless? I realized that when I saw the rose.
