What summer camp meant to me.

When you were a kid, did you ever go to summer camp? Well I did and I am going to share my memories with you. The camp I went to every year from when I started middle school to when I finished high school was called Camp Gerber. This was a Boy Scout camp, and it was Gerber the camping supplies, not Gerber the baby food. They always had a theme to the week, and they would pretty much stick to that theme really well. Sometimes they had more than one theme going at a time. When we got there, they would have what’s called a fire bowl, where they would have skits and introduce the counselors. The next day we would go and do our merit badges in the different areas.

Merit badges can consist of things like archery and canoeing, even things like citizenship in the nation and personal management. The first year you go there, you go to this place called eagle quest. There you would work on rank advancements all week. On Wednesday, they had the order of the arrow initiation ceremony. It was very solemn, and it is supposed to be a secret, so I cant tell you much about it. We would finish off the week with another ending fire bowl. They would end all of the themes, and do the finishing skits. At last, camp was over. After we packed up, we would head out, and I would look out the back of the car, already exited about next year.
