An article about talking to myself, as well as talking about other people talking to themselves.
Talking to one’s self is something that is often joked. I happen to talk to myself every day; as a matter of fact, I am talking to myself right now. One thing that I find very interesting about it is that it keeps me sane; without talking to myself I cannot handle being around myself.
For as long as I can remember I have been talking to myself. One thing that occurs often is enacting a conversation in which I am telling people that I talk to myself. I act as both people: *insert name here* and me. I generally spend my time attempting to convince the other person that I truly do talk to myself, while they continually deny that I ever do or would. Truly convincing them never happens, which is quite odd, because I do have complete control over who says what, because I am in fact the only one speaking. Usually these conversations are with a close friend, so I have these conversations quite often with the same people. Another recurring thing I talk to myself about is my own ideals. Ranging from my views on religious beliefs, to political issues, all the way down to my basic morals. I believe that the reason I seem to talk to myself about my own ideals is to help shape them, further them into truly making them my own. By consulting them with only myself I have no outside influences that form them into someone else’s ideals. It can be quite exhausting to consult myself about personal ideas, because I have lived for so many years learning about others’ ideals. Although it can be frustrating at times, I enjoy doing it because I learn so much about myself.
I encourage every person to talk to themselves every day by spending some amount of time alone, and having a conversation with yourself. Have fun talking to yourself!
