We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog reading with this story just in from Vientiane, Laos:
Jeremy Aaron has started walking.
Chiu Inthavong, a.k.a. Aon reported from the capital city of Laos this morning that eleven-and-half month-old Jeremy Aaron has taken his first solo steps and, according to the proud mama, Jeremy Aaron is A-okay.
“He had been standing on his own for about the past two weeks,” Aon said during a much anticipated telephone conversation about this milestone for Jeremy Aaron, “without having to hold onto anything. He was probably just waiting for the right moment to take those small, but very BIG first steps.”
Although this milestone was not recorded for posterity, Aon’s detailed account gives us a clear picture of what this special moment must have been like for the little fellow.
“He was a little unsteady at first when he put out his left foot and took that first step. He looked at me for some kind of sign perhaps to encourage him or maybe to be ready to grab him if he lost his balance,” Aon continued, “but then he brought up his right leg and put out his right foot and took that next step without much difficulty. When he flashed me a six-tooth smile, I knew that he was okay.”
Not exactly what you would call the hokey-pokey, but Jeremy Aaron was definitely walking. The next three steps for Jeremy Aaron were equally effortless, but according to Aon, he probably didn’t want to overdo it, his first time out, so after five steps he plopped down on the floor and started laughing.
“Mission accomplished,” Aon laughed.
For the rest of the day, Jeremy Aaron switched back to crawling mode. However, he stood up a few more times, no doubt sizing up the room and figuring out how many steps he will need to take to get from one side of the room to the other.
“He’ll be walking tall soon,” Aon added.
As for how his proud papa Jeffrey feels about Jeremy Aaron’s first steps, he summed it up as any proud father would: “That’s my boy!”
