A visit to a real haunted house.
For as long as I can remember I have heard stories of the Abby House, I am not sure if they are true, or just stories passed down through the years. I decided the best way to find out was to go there!
It was a cool Friday night in October, when some friends and I decided to jump in a car and head to a small town called New Diggins, it is located in southwest Wisconsin. We were all excited about what we may see or hear, the stories we all heard about the place were fascinating. One story claims that if you park on the bridge closest to the Abby house, at midnight, your car will stall, because in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s, three children and their mother died from an unknown illness, and the father buried them under the bridge, and later hung himself in a nearby oak tree.
There have also been stories of teens having parties at the House, and a girl was pushed from a second story window, pushed by someone or something, she wasn’t hurt, but they all got in their cars and tried to leave when the first car over the bridge stalled. After about 15 minutes of terror, the car started, and they left, the story also states, that they were chased down the 3 mile gravel driveway by two or three orbs.
Now, I am not claiming these accounts are true, but I think you can see why it may have gotten my attention. As we arrived at the start of the 3 mile driveway, it is safe to assume there was some hesitation. We proceeded cautiously, as we neared the first bridge, I started to feel an awful sensation in my stomach, you know, like what am I doing here. But at the same time I was feeling a little excitement as well.
We approached the infamous “stall” bridge, we stopped before it, started debating on going further or turning back, well, we marched on. As we came to the House, you could feel it, I mean physically, all of my senses were on alert. We saw the tree, were old man Abby allegedly hung himself, and the house it self would put a shiver up your spine. A friend of mine decided he would be brave and walk to the house, he didn’t get very far, he came running and screaming, claiming someone touched his back and he got really cold, he was actually trembling when he got in the car. We decided at that time, it would be as good a time as any to take our leave.
On the way out of the driveway, nothing happened on the “stall” bridge, but we hit it at a pretty good rate of speed, all of the sudden one of my friends screams ” what is that?, it’s following us”. I turned back and could see two lights coming at the car, I was scared. We got to the main road and the lights stopped, right at the end of the driveway. We screamed and laughed and talked about this for the last 10 years. But none of us ever went back.
