Just me walking around Columbia’s campus and sharing some thoughts.

OK, so today was a regular work day for me… Except for one thing. My boss sent me on an errand to Columbia University to put up flyers about his business. At first I was annoyed because who wants to walk around, on a hot day like today, posting up flyers on this college campus that expands… I don’t know how many blocks, but a lot. I got off the train walked to the security guard and asked for a bulletin board. He said there weren’t any. He told me to walk through the campus to Amsterdam Avenue. Make a left to 119th street and go to building 419. I walked through the campus like he said; my head was engulfed in the writings of the pages of the October 2007 issue (dedicated to Paris, France) of XLR8R Magazine. (I have magazines for years before I pick them and read them.)

I just so happened to look up from the colorful pages to notice how beautiful the campus was. I had never been before. I’ve walked along the outskirts of it, but never walked through it. The grass was perfectly manicured and the sun illuminated the brick and stone structures of the campus. I was completely in awe. Aside from the clutter of trucks and people that were setting up for college graduations, the campus was so inviting. But of course, this is New York City and the people hustle and bustle so much that they probably don’t take the time to notice the scenery anyway. I was just glad that I had the opportunity to see and appreciate the fact that my boss sent me on this errand.

So anyway, after loosing my mind because I didn’t see building 419 and having to ask another security guard to direct me, I finally made it. And do you know what happened? The woman in charge of Off-Campus Housing told me, “We don’t take flyers. You have to post it up online.” WHAT?!?!? Naturally, I was a little irritated. I called my boss and he told me, the information was already posted online. Post it on bus stops and campus bulletin boards. So, off I went back through the campus, red (i.e. Angry). I walked 4 blocks to find a Duane Reade where I purchased tape for $1.50, or so. I made a stop at Starbucks along the way. The Mocha Frappucino was the only thing that could’ve made me happy. And it did, somewhat.

On my way back to the campus, I posted the flyers on bus stops, phone booths. I walked through the campus to Amsterdam Avenue, again, and posted flyers on bus stops, phone booths. Then I thought to myself, I’ve asked 3 people about bulletin boards. One told me there weren’t any, one said there IS one, and the other directed me, but I still didn’t find it. What the hell? Here I approached the fourth person, a third security guard who told me to try Lerner Hall. The glass building. I made it to the glass building. Still didn’t find a bulletin board, but found a bulletin pole where I posted up my last 3 flyers. (I didn’t have many to begin with.) I walked myself back to the train station. My eyes glided over the majestic campus one last time and I headed to the office. Where I am now. I hope you’ve enjoyed my little blog.

I like this because she was experiencing a college campus where she has never been in before. I felt like I was experiencing the campus myself. This is a great story. Give you all of God’s blessings in your success.
