Watching a baby being born, is like nothing I have ever experienced. Each time I watch a newborn come into our world I am so grateful that I was there to empower the mother, support the father and just be part of something so wonderful.
Today was a special day, in many different ways, for on this day 1 year ago, I helped bring forth a child into our world that day. Today she is one year old, and is growing every day, what a miracle I witnessed on that glorious day.
A three D, ultrasound taken of a fetus at 17 weeks old. It appears he is waving to us with his left hand. Well today I got a phone call, a woman asking for a Doula, she said she was not sure if she could do this all alone. She said she had no money, and hoped that “I was a low cost Doula”. I explain to her that while it is true there is a price to pay, but let that not get in the way. I told what I do and where we are to begin, told her we should meet and work out all the details. I told that I would be there to help during the last few weeks of her pregnancy but most importantly I will work with her by empowering her to have faith that her body will know what to do. Together as a team we will work on meditation, focusing and relaxation, and if when the time comes she needs or demands an epidural, it is her birth experience I will still be by her side.

She says she can do it, I explain you never know until that time, again she mention price, again I said we’ll talk.
I look forward to meeting with her; I enjoy being able to empower women to believe in themselves, to believe in the body’s ability to do what must be done, while she is in labor. If all she needs is a hand to hold, that is what I do. Times are tough, and money is hard to come by, my time is very valuable but when my work is done I need to have a clear conscious and do what’s in my heart.
