A tale told in the style of website blogging from a minor league baseball fan and falls in love with a girl who works on staff at the park.
Hello again friends! It’s your daily Glenn Cove Wildcats on-line reporter Stan D again; ready to give you all the latest for our Wildcats! I can’t believe they blew out the Voldasta Peachtrees! That’s their first sweep of the year! I’m so proud of them. I know they’re not as good as they were a few years ago but you have to admit they’re getting better. When I started this here web site, it was nothing but sunshine from our Wildcats! Those days may be over now, but there’s a new horizon coming! Let me tell you though–the Peachtrees are no laughing matter. They have a good first baseman that can hit the ball hard named Steve Travers. He will definitely be in “The Show” someday. But what am I doing here? He plays for the OPPOSITE TEAM!
It was 7:15pm when the game started. Mascot Night. Willy the Wildcat comes out every half inning to entertain the kids! It’s a lot of fun. I vote for the Best Hot Dog Walk-around Vendor every week and the Best Cotton Candy Spinner on this site afterwards! I know these concession guys (and gals!) want to know what Stan D thinks of them every week. Things are a bit sad around here as you know since we had to part with The Great Kate. She graduated high school and is off to college this fall. She was really great at her job, and a very attractive girl! I will miss her greatly. Well, this weekend, no home games. I have some lazy days off and I don’t need to do anything but sit around and drink my pop. But I can’t wait for next week! I hope they wallop the Middleton Mighty Jacks! See you there!
This four game series has me all a gas! Later tonight I’ll head over to the ballpark, grab a scorecard as usual, and Old Selma of course will be there waiting for me ready to rip my ticket and let me into the ballpark. She is a great old gal. She has three sons, and guess what! She has thirteen grandsons and granddaughters! I guess she’ll be served well in the after life. I can’t wait to see her! I also can’t wait to see the Wildcats play. They look so outstanding in their uniforms. Purple stripe, white outfits. Purple hats with a yellow “W” in the middle; purple socks, and white shoes. They look so majestic! The lead off hitter for the Wildcats is Mart Grazer, and he’s amazing. He has an on base percentage of .348! I know it’s not “The Bigs” but that’s still impressive! Tonight’s crowd should be good too–Glenn Cove Court always has an array of other events going on, not just baseball! One thing I love watching is right outside the right field stands there’s a little rolling hill that the kids can play on. I remember when I was a kid I was on that hill, playing catch under those lights. I really miss it all, thinking about it. But that’s okay because when I go to that ballpark I still feel like a kid! And I know everyone! Throughout those summer months it’s like I have a hundred friends! And they can’t wait to see me!
