You could see many person talking to themselves while moving along a road. They would be unmindful of their surroundings. Their actions would be delightful to watch.
All of us feel bored sometime or the other. This is not a defect in our system. When you don’t have anything worthwhile to do, you would find yourself forlorn and you may probably switch on the T.V for your favourite channel;. some will feel like tearing off their hair; some machismos may start a quarrel with the wife, just for the heck of it or to while away the time.
May I suggest another way out of this dilemma? Just get out of your house, go to the busy main street and study the behaviour of people who use the road. Always choose a road with a large human traffic. The city where I live is an overcrowded State capital and thousands of people could be seen treading along for around 18 hours in a day.
Ignore the people who are in a great hurry. They are not our target at all. You should be on the look for the fellows who slouch about as if they have all the time in the world and move like snails. If you watch them closely, you would notice that their lips are moving silently; in certain cases, their hands and legs would be busy in some kind of visible actions; another variety would be somewhat vocal. He may be trying to sing a song or fight with someone very vociferously. They are the monologuists or soliloquists; people who talk with themselves unmindful of their surroundings..
Study their actions carefully and draw your own conclusions of what they could be saying or doing.
Once a small boy about 10 or 11 years caught my attention. The time then was around 5.30 p.m. He would kick his legs alternately and sometime one of his feet would appear to be drawing figures on the floor. He is a footballer and possibly the captain of his school team.Having lostin the finals that afternoon to another school, he could have been doing a postmortem of what he should have done or should not have done as the centre forward. Soon he went out of my sight.
The next one was a classical singer, singing Indian classical songs. His right hand was all the time in the air. Now and then he would look to his right and left and nod his head appreciating and encouraging the accompanists. He obviously was returning from a musical concert. Did he receive tons of applause for his performance? Possibly yes and he was reliving those glorious moments. I couldn’t hear his voice; or was it inaudible to my ears? According to my experience, most of these monologuists would keep their sound chords well under check and not let them sprint into real time singing but their mouth would be in action in the silent mode..
