I took a typing test at Barclays Bank International on Wall Street, and tested at 98 words per minute with 1 error for 3 minutes.
Typing of words led me to a career in typing the possibilities. I have typed in the forefront of what typing is about, and have covered all sides of typing which I learned. This all came about from my Grandfather, who insisted that typing was going to be my career in making money. It was so much the fact, that my Grandfather who never typed, and had made me practice 4 hours everyday while upgrading my vocabulary with picking a word from a list, and incorporating it into my everyday language.
It led me to work as a Clerk Typist in Promotion & Advertising Department for a major publishing house. I took a typing test at Barclays Bank International on Wall Street, and tested at 98 words per minute with 1 error for 3 minutes. The bank only wanted 45 words per minute. I was immediately sent to the Supervisor where the job was, and was interviewed with three red stars placed on both sides of my name in being the top applicant. I didn’t get the job because the Department Manager had issues. It didn’t stop me, because I had worked in numerous other typing disciplines such as: Typing Pool, Administrative Assistant, Executive Administrative Assistant , Executive Assistant, Personal Assistant, Senior level Executive Secretary, Steno Typist, Legal Typist, IBM Punch Cards Mailing List Typist, Lead Word Processor-Corporate Word Processing Center, Telex Operator Online, Statistical Typist and Radio Station Continuity Typist. I can even take stenography at 120 words per minute with knowledge of the Dictaphone. So all that typing constructed by my Grandfather actually paid off, and came in handy. He was trying to prepare me for a career as a Court Reporter, which I didn’t go that route, but he was satisfied that I took typing seriously. I even took a typing course in College, and I was nicknamed “Speedy” because I was more advanced than the other students. When I hit the typing keyboard, it was like a musical note at the right time for the right reason.
In my current position at Macy’s, I tested in typing at 95 words per minute with 2 errors, and was immediately hired, and the rest is history. Typing in the making with keyboarding in reflection, and being successful. The motto, “Typing today with the task being done tomorrow”.
