A description of what I encountered while riding a roller coaster.
This Summer I…
Top Thrill Dragster; at Cedar Point smothered the light of the sun with its massive structure. This was the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the park, and by far the scariest. However, I summoned all the courage I could muster and entered the line. For what seemed like an eternity, my party and I stood in the blazing sun as dozens of other riders waited their turn to experience the feeling that had my cousins and me hours away from the safety of our homes. After a long wait, the loading zone was in sight, and I began to question my initial courage. Trying to be as comfortable as I could in the cramped, “dragster,” cockpit was no easy task. My knuckles turned white, as I griped the harness. Then I experienced the feeling that every teenager craves, it is the brief moment on every rollercoaster where the suspense is at its peak, and nothing else but what is ahead matters. Anything that was on your mind, or was bugging you before is completely erased from your brain. In half a second the car shoots forward reaching speeds of one hundred and twenty miles per hour in four seconds, soaring into the sky at four hundred four hundred and twenty feet. At the summit of the rollercoaster it goes completely silent. The only noise that can be heard, is the light breeze in the wind. The whole entire park is visible and the realization sets in that this is the highest point I can see in any direction. After the brief calm, the ride gets louder and the car builds speed. I saw myself rocketing towards the ground at an incredible speed. That is when you lift out of your seat, and you feel a void in your stomach. In seconds the ride was over, and I could breathe a sigh of relief. I had made it through the tallest ride in the park and couldn’t wait for some more. I stepped out of the seat and smiled at my cousins. “What next?” I asked Ian.
“I’m pretty sure that tops them all, Matt,” he quickly replied. But, what kind of people were we to ride only one rollercoaster? That was the first of many thrill rides that we rode that day. Nothing could compare to that first ride that started us off that day.
