Questioning what can actually lure you back to writing sites such as Triond and it is an addiction or a…..

What is it about writing sites like Triond that keeps us going back repeatedly?

Is it the challenge to see how many articles you can actually write and get published?Perhaps it is the fact that if you have enough articles published you will make more then a couple of cents per day and maybe you will become like one of so called writers they claim are making hundreds per month for their writing.

Is it the not knowing how they actually make that amount of money and searching for the answer that keeps you going back.

Is it the recognition you get from writing?

Do you just want to make it on hot content, even the once? Or if you’ve been on hot content does it become a challenge to see how may times you can see your name there?

Is it that you think you will make more money if you do get on hot content?(Not true, if anything you make less,I make more on some of my poetry then articles I have had on on hot content,as well as long excruciating articles I have worked days on only to see I am making less than I am on my poetry.)

Is it the frustration trying to figure out a way to actually make some money on your articles that draw you back?

Is it the comments you get on your work or is it making writing friends that keeps you going back? Perhaps you have so many friends you have to go back in order to keep up with them feeling as though you have an obligation or duty to comment on their work,is that what keeps you going back?

Is it solely based on the numbers or stats and you want to see just how many will read your work online each day?

Is it seeing your work published online that keeps you going back?

Is it seeing how much you have earned each day that lures you back?

I think if you have answered yes to more than three of these questions, you are addicted! But in the finality of it all, what are you really addicted to, the writing site or the actual opportunity it offers to express yourself to the ever growing population of the Internet? Being a writer at heart I know the answer to this,do you?

So what now?

If you look at it positively you are at least making some form of income on your addiction even if it is only cents, unlike most other addictions which cost money! Although, you do have to remember in order for it to be safe you must make sure you don’t place it before your other duties neglecting your family, children, friends and work for it. I think that if you know where to place it in your life it than becomes a safe addiction, a hobby. And let’s face it, when push comes to shove, it can be one of the most satisfying hobbies there is because you are actually doing something you love do:’WRITE’

Speaking of that, I have fulfilled my duties for the day, it is 10 o’clock at night and I think I will write a poem. About what I do not know yet but I’m quite sure I will figure it out, and even if I don’t at least this idea popped out of my head while trying. Maybe it will make hot content, what do you think? (LOL) Until then see you on the flip side.

Haha, very clever. Your questions are still wondering around in my head in search of an answer. I enjoyed reading this article as it applies really to EVERYONE here on Triond.

    Very well done.

You always write articles that answer questions. Now you come up with a poser that I’m fumbling around with at five in the morning. I suspect I’m addicted to some of my “friends” work. You and certain others leave needle tracks on my arm whenever I read them. lol. I’ll come back to this one. I think it’s the money. No. It’s an ego trip. When I did this for a living no one would pay me.

I am addicted to triond for all the above reasons you mentioned.

  • Ferdine on Sep 10, 2009

With me it’s all of the above, but I agree with your cautionary remarks at the end. Another excellent piece; your work deserves to make more than cents.

hahahaha very good Mystify! What keeps me coming back is the positive people like you ;) lol. I have never met so many humble and nice people at once who actually enjoy my writing. That is what keeps me writing. Great write!

very good and I have to admit I thought yes to more then 3 so I guess I must be addicted, I even gave up another addited site that I was on for a couple years before this one witch is as much rewarding if not more then the last . But what really keeps me coming back ? Good question!! :D

I enjoy writing and at least someone reads my articles on Triond. I would write anyway. I have dozens of journals I have done over the years and I am addicted to writing period.

I really enjoyed this. I do keep coming back to writing and Triond because I have so many friends here, and my articles and poems get lots of comments.

I have actually stopped writing stuff right now. I’m trying to come up with quality stuff that will make money at this point. I’ve been writing down ideas and once the kids are settled at school and things have quieted down, I’m planning to devote some time to articles and topics that will generate interest as well as income. I don’t care about the recognition. I just want the most efficient way to publish on Triond and earn some money.

Mystify—>I am probably an addict now LOL! I have a part-time day job during the week and on weekends, I help-out my olds who own a hotel in Australia (Queensland) – so I doubt it will ever become an ‘unhealthy’ addiction. I’m on the ‘Hot Content’ list at the moment (???) – don’t know how on earth I got there (haven’t been here a month yet), but I must admit – it’s uplifting and a real buzz – so I keep on writing. This was an enjoyable read :-)

Good poser. Let me think about it for a sec. Yes, I am addicted; I check in everyday to see how many persons have read my article or commented on it :)

  • JoshuaD on Sep 23, 2009

It is the $500 a week that keeps me going.

If one doesn’t write because he or she loves it one might always be disappointed for writing when writing for the wrong reason.
