Triond spell check doesn’t recognize every word and that can mean rejection of an article. And Sarah spends the night.

What do you do when Triond’s spell checker does not recognize the correct spelling of a word? I had seven words it didn’t recognize in an article I submitted last night, and the article was rejected for misspelled words. I did have one misspelled word. I left out an o in economy. I submitted it again today so I will see if they reject it again. This has happened to me a few times and it’s a little aggravating but no biggie, although it does put me behind the schedule I wanted to keep. I suppose we have to expect these upsets sometimes. Nothing is perfect including my spelling but I do use spell check.

In my article, “A Future Not a Past”,something happened that I don’t understand. It was printed in duplicate. I’m sure you all saw that. I put a fix on it immediately and it was fixed today. We have all had these small annoying occurrences and that goes with submitting our articles. I enjoy writing for Triond in spite of these mishaps and I plan to continue as long as they will have me. I have no ax to grind.

My granddaughter spent the night with us last night. We are in a one bedroom apartment and I made her bed on the couch in the living room. She had had a long exhausting day so we went to bed a little earlier than usual. Sarah had dozed off when we heard loud voices coming from the deck of the apartment under us. Hoots of laughter and all sorts of noise. I knew the gabble would wake her, so I got up and went to the living room. She was up and thought someone was outside in the hall.

We went out on our deck so she could tell where the noise was coming from. Sarah said she thought I would lean over the deck and ask them to quieten down. I didn’t because I didn’t want to get in a shouting match with unruly neighbors. She was tired, and satisfied nobody was in the hall, we went back to bed and she went right to sleep. Not me because the “boom” “boom” music started and carried on until 5 o’clock this morning. We spoke to management. This young couple have partied hard in the past, but not for several months, Lionel and I don’t mind them partying. In fact, we both enjoy seeing young folks have a good time, but we can’t have them partying till 5 o’clock in the morning. Well, we can occasionally but not often.

Sarah and I went to the pool this morning. It was like having our own private pool in our back yard. We had it all to ourselves. Lionel came out and sat in the shade awhile. Sarah and I swam and floated. She practiced doing her hand stands and I did my exercises. We played hunter and huntee. I got out of the pool first and read my book, “Georgia Boy” by Erskine Caldwell. By this time we were starving and came home to fix a late lunch. The cool water chilled us and we didn’t need air conditioning for the rest of the day, although our lips didn’t turn blue to tell on us. Jeff picked Sarah up on his way home from work. And I sat down in my rocker with a big sigh to relax.

Nice story, Ruby; and I can certainly understand about those little Triond mishaps!

  • ken bultman on Jul 11, 2009

Thanks for the story. Cannot deal with boom booms. That’s one reason I live out in the boonies. That’s a reason I suffer with dial-up because broadband isn’t available to me.

Triond’s spell check doesn’t include every word. This is particulary true for a technical word as in medical term. Perhaps, this is one of the shortcoming to rely wholly upon the machine/software. Great piece and liked it.

  • George W Whitehead on Jul 11, 2009

I usually find that if I know that my spelling is right, Triond gives up in the end and accepts it.
Couldn’t the police sort out your noisy neighbours. Here in the UK, by law, nobody is allowed to make any unduly loud noise after 11:30pm. The first time, they get a warning from the police and if they persist (which includes committing the offence a few weeks later), the police will then charge them!

I concur, i’ve had problems with the spell checker too. My Zoozoo’s article was rejected 4 times since it had some names of people and places, a few hindi words (which i do understand that the spell checker does not understand them) and some others. It took me about 10 to 12 days to get the article published from the first submitted day.

Nice read.. And that’s true, I’m having issues with the misspelled errors too..

  • Deep Blue on Jul 11, 2009

Far as I’m concerned that spell checker is a worst invention in the literary circle. I had a lot of good articles written for days only to be rejected.I suppose it depends upon the category since it was a bit easy on poetry. So if you have an article rejected, better have a poem out of it. So let us make loads of poems even it doesn’t rhyme and don’t wait for a rhyme checker software to be around to make our writing miserable.

  • chitragopi on Jul 11, 2009

True. Words of other languages, essential for some articles are taken as misspelt.

  • Jenny Heart on Jul 11, 2009

Triond can cause frustrations at time. It can also cause satisfaction too. I guess we must take the good with the bad. Great article!

  • Nathan G on Jul 11, 2009

It is anoying you can add some words to dictionary but i constantly having to email editors to sort things out.

  • OhSugar on Jul 11, 2009

I am in total agreement that there are many misspelled words, most of which can be caught if we slow down and read our own articles before submitting them. I am a fast typist with not so short fingernails. I would appreciate anyone who calls my attention to any errors of mine.

  • Sheila M on Jul 11, 2009

I sure don’t miss living in apartments with other people. As far as the spell checker I just use another one besides Triond. ~ good article

  • Lauren Axelrod on Jul 11, 2009

The spellchecker actually converts correctly spelled words into the incorrect version.

  • Lostash on Jul 11, 2009

It’s not just the spell-checker it seems!! I can only comment on Picable and Authspot for some reason, none of the others appear to work over the past few days???

  • Inna Tysoe on Jul 11, 2009

Yeah, and comments on the new formats seem to have been turned off–at least for me!

Nice story Ruby!Fortunately for me a lot of my articles are dealing with gardening and it doesn’t recognize a whole lot of scientific names so I think they just put them through now.I’m just really pleased I can finally respond to one of your articles without numourus attempts.lolI think there is somewhere in the spell check that you can add words to dictonary if I am not mistaken.Anyways excellent work as always! Thank you my friends, I guess we can expect some aggravation and I do, but wondered if you have the same trouble.

Lostash,I have not been able to comment for 3 days on about 7 or 8 sites. I am sorry. I hope they will have it fixed soon. It’s on the switch over sites. It will be easier to comment when they get the bugs worked out.I have missed commenting on many of my friends work and I know you have also. Our pay check will be shorter next month.

Sheila, I use another spell checker too, but Triond must use the one on here.

George, the police can sort it out. We called them once when things got very bad and we thought someone was being hurt. But the partying doesn’t happen often and they normally are a nice young couple. We hate to have them go to jail, or be thrown out of their apartment, which they will if we call the police again.

Ken, you have a better idea but we love where we live, we are close to everything and we are willing to put up with some noise. It’s normaly very quiet and peaceful.

  • CA Johnson on Jul 11, 2009

I have not had an article rejected because Triond did not recognize spellings. That is a shame that that happened to you, Ruby. I am so glad that you got to spend time with your granddaughter. It sounds as if you had a great time. I really enjoyed reading this Ruby.

  • Daisy Peasblossom on Jul 12, 2009

I use Dictionary.com to check my spellings, and then add them to the dictionary if there is no selection available.

Neighbors can be less than fun. There were things I loved about living in the country.

  • nsmukundan on Jul 12, 2009

nice story…my best wishes to you.

  • Lex92 on Jul 13, 2009

Thats’ happened to me once… I just added those names to the dictonary…I mean if they’re right, they’re right you know? Great story

  • N. Lloyd Andrews on Jul 15, 2009

Nice story Ruby. I think it’s nice that you have restraint when it comes to neighbors who are occasionally obnoxious. I usually will politely ask the neighbors to tone it down if they are loud. But I have small children. My level of tolerance goes way down if it is a regular thing. Fortunately, it hasn’t been a problem in my neighborhood for a long time.

As for Triond rejecting spelling errors: I don’t understand. I remember reading a different piece that was rife with not only spelling errors, but with horrible grammatical flaws as well. Although in retrospect, the spelling errors were not necessarily wrong spelling. I think they were more usage errors like substituting to for too.

Boy, do I understand spellcheck problems. My words program’s spellcheck stopped working. I had never had that happen before. My husband downloaded an update version and fixed the problem.

  • CutestPrincess on Jul 31, 2009

i do agree with you, triond’s spellchecker is quite bad…
